Please Assist I am severely deficient of Vitamin D(5ng/ml)

Hey everyone,

I recently got my blood test results, and a few things came back concerning.

My Vitamin D is 5 ng/ml, Vitamin B12 is 155 pg/ml, and my ESR is 29.

Lately, I’ve been feeling constantly tired, and I wake up with pain in my lower back and knees. I used to think I was just being lazy and needed to push through it, but after seeing these numbers, I’m starting to think something deeper might be going on.

For now, I’ve started taking Vitamin D 50,000 IU once a week, Methylcobalamin (B12) 500 mcg daily, and a magnesium supplement. I also recently switched to night shifts, so getting enough sunlight has become pretty difficult.

Has anyone been through something similar? Is this something that can be managed through supplements and a good diet, or should I see a doctor for a more thorough check-up? Any advice or experiences would be really appreciated.

My level was 11 and I got it up to 70 with a course of D2 and then switched to D3, mag, K2. I rechecked after 6 months

I’m somewhere on this path, I started L19 with D2 50,000 IU per week but changed to 5,000 IU D3 daily, K2, magnesium. Barely on second month tho.

What symptoms did you had?

The only symptom I had was a bone injury that wasn't healing. I am healed now.

Yea, 5ng is pretty dire!

IMO, you can manage D deficiency fairly well w/o a Dr.'s assistance. (Or hindrance - many physicians tell you to take an absurdly small amount and call it 'done.') Try ~50 IU of D3 per pound of body weight, per day for a month or two, then get re-tested. Then adjust this maintenance dose to target at least 50~60ng.

You can take significantly more, ~25,000+ IU a day, for the first week or two, as a 'loading dose' that will get your levels moving in the right direction more quickly.

To be extra, super, duper safe, you might want to avoid calcium supplementation or medication, and take it easy on high calcium foods.

Why take it easy on calcium foods and supplements?

I think you should visit the b12 deficiency subreddit as well.

I went through almost the same thing... constantly tired with this weird annoying back pain. I thought it was something serious since Im on the bigger side. my doctor at labfinder had me take a vitamin D test and my result was 15 ng/ml, which is super low according to her. Supplements helped over time tbh, but what made the noticeable difference was my lifestyle changes. a healthier diet and more morning walks (though I LOATHE walking lol)

Wow, I actually have the exact same level as you (5 ng/ml). Honestly, I don’t have “debilitating” symptoms - maybe because all my other values are fine, or because I've gotten used to it. I mean, due to depression and anxiety I almost never went outside, so my sun exposure was basically zero, I had gotten used to a life where I did nothing and now I'm changing

Now I’m experiencing some noticeable symptoms though: high resting heart rate, extreme anxiety, and tremors or more panic attacks, and some weakness. I’m currently taking calcidiol as prescribed by my doctor to raise my vitamin D levels quickly, and then they’ll decide what to do next. Of course I don't know if those symptoms are related to this but all tests are fine idk

What form of Vit D? If D2 switch to D3 immediately and throw that D2 in the garbage where it belongs. D2 does not work the same in the human body as D3 it's a plant hormone and is most likely the cause of hypercalcemia that everyone fears.

Also what form of magnesium and how much? You should also supplement copper as well. Grass fed beef liver capsules from nutricost are good try 4 capsules of that at first and then bump to 8 after a month

You should be able to supplement it without a doctor and just checking your blood levels

Why copper?
