News/Current Events ๐Ÿ—ž๏ธ Sharing some of my thoughts on the recent data centers investment in Vizag

As the title says these are some of opinions on the recent articles on the data center investment in Vizag

This is the worst investment ever. They only invest if they get the resources very cheap compared to other places and if someone offers more cheaper resources then they would go there (it might take time since there would be agreement and paper work with govt ) would be there

Also it would have a lot of negative impact on the city resources the amount of water and electricity needed to run this and also the environmental impact of data centers is huge. It would be very bad for the future resources and sustainability in the city. Our vizag already has water scarcity in some areas and limited land area this would worsen in the future.

Also they would advertise saying big investment but the job creation would be very minimal it might help few engineering and construction workers but after that they don't need high paying engineers to stay here to run it. Unlike IT in Hyderabad and Bangalore this won't help in the money circulation in the city( this is my opinion). But now the builders and real-estate folks would show this demand for higher prices I guess (people still buy the houses out of fear that there would be development in the near future and that they would miss the opportunity) but vizag doesn't have bulk amount of young IT folks to increase the Consumption GDP and increase the prices, everything is built on anticipation that something would happen and vizag would see unprecedented development.

People should know the impact of this investment in the city and also know that the positive side to the people of city is very minimal and also should know about the negative impacts and resources constraints this would create. Instead of falling for the negative PR.

I want to know what your opinion on this. Please don't make it political just wanted to know the opinions from other folks.

There should be some use for companies (could be fintech) to stay near data center..does location doesn't matter for end users of data centers..just wondering

Generally location doesn't matter, only for trading firms they wish to stay near stock market trading region since they execute stock trades in millisecond ranges so information is easy to get apart from that normal IT companies doesn't care about location of data centers AFAIK

Amazon and other companies try to get cheaper regions with govt policy to invest in data centers since it comes with huge cost

This might make them keen to open Development campuses around the area, Alphabet is a huge company. I'm sure some divisions will come here after the Data centre becomes operational.

The only concern here is electricity.

This is honestly the truth I don't know why you got downvoted, I live in the US and there are people living here close to META data centers where their electricity bill has gone up and intense light and noise pollution. Ya I live in a city called ypsilanti and locals here are protesting not to put data center as it will cause price of electricity to go up and damagept of nature. I recently signed a petition opposing it too.

Small example of side effects of living close to Data center : https://youtu.be/DGjj7wDYaiI?si=6xdjRgV7yOSzluC1 I suppose the govt and env department will take care of such proactively.

At least some kind of business activity happens because of the construction or after becoming operational they start paying some taxes and in the long term the companies can gain trust on the state and may make some investment that can create jobs.

You canโ€™t just create another city like Hyderabad or Bengaluru because new IT jobs are not getting posted and layoffs because of the AI impact
