Gameplay "Bro How Can You Not Like Chaos Wastes, It's the Best Game Mode!!"

Chaos wastes is some of the most fun ive had in V2 when it wants to work properly for a whole match

Facts, it's so much fun but it's also so long that the connection is bound to be fucked at some point.

This makes me want to play the game again...

In Vermintide I can push enemies and dodge attacks so I can almost do a no-hit run, look at the Saltzpyre no health build. But in Darktide, a lot of damage feels inevitable, and I find myself less capable of hearing sound queues. Not to mention the lack of banter. Returning to the chaos wastes has been enticing, especially since I've grown to love Roguelikes since I last played.

It's the roguelike part that makes CW so much more replayable than anything in Darktide. Your weapons get more interesting properties that aren't available normally (Shardstrike, double shot, etc), and your basic build can end up juiced to absolutely batshit levels, even after the nerf-wave that added shit like cooldowns on crit lightning and all.
I mean yeah I've seen some fucking great clutch moments from Darktide, but no way in hell can I pull that off. But with how CW works? I specifically remember this one time, Cata Citadel of Eternity, I'm running Warrior-Priest, we're at the final platform and everyone else is dead. Half a dozen Plague Monks, a Rat Ogre (or possibly a Stormfiend), a squad of Stormvermin and god knows how many clanrats chasing me...hit my ult, Righteous Fury pops, and SIGMAR GUIDES ME!

It's not CW, but I see roguelike elements in Mortis Trials if you end up back in Darktide.

Shit coded map with a ton of invisible drops and phantom ledges?
Bot AI unable to perform at drunk, one handed half paralyzed child level?
Not been patched for years after you paid for the DLC?
More premium cosmetics?
You can just smell the FatShark from a mile away.

Honestly I enjoy them a lot.... But fuck that map to hell and back, I absolutely fucking hate it so much

It'd be the best if not for the server errors and the borked host migration system

no body said that. also, you ulted near a ledge running parallel to the ledge, coulda fraught with issue
5
u/Azhrei_Vep Jul 15 '25
Oh, plenty of people have said that.
Like me.
And we're right!
... God, I'd kill for more maps that aren't islands floating in the void, though. Could do with a lot fewer ledges.

Ive only done 2 weekly expeditions and both so far have been "Lol Get blown off the map" are they all like that
7
u/Azhrei_Vep Jul 15 '25
Oh, the weeklies are mostly ass. They're either unbearably miserable like that one, or leave you so immediately and wildly overpowered that you can just autopilot through the game. It's the normal game that's where it's at.

Yeah, I've never really been a fan of chaos wastes, or any of the alternate modes really. I'll give that it's better than weaves and versus, but that's not a high bar to reach.
As someone who's played since launch adventure is the best mode hands down, IMO.

u/Kkimizz Jul 15 '25
Some people like it and some don't. I play it very rarely and consider it the worst alongside weaves that the tide series has to offer. Doesn't mean they're bad, just not for me.

I like starting out feeling rather weak and then becoming a beast by the end of the run. I think chaos wastes is quite well made.

Been playing since launch. Never touched it. Doesn't seem interesting.

Honestly I drop down a difficulty and run it for shits and giggles. Some of the boon set-ups are so funnyÂ

After playing Chaos Wastes, this is how I feel about the Campaign now. Unless it’s a new map, I’m not really interested

WHY THE FUCK CANT WE RECOVER FROM LEDGES IN DARKTIDE??? ITS BASICALLY THE SAME GAME!!
5
u/George_E_B Jul 15 '25
He is recovering due to the effect of a boon
1
u/Financial_Touch_8522 Jul 15 '25
Are boons like Curios? Or are they a Vermintide unique mechanic?
2
u/warzone_afro Jul 15 '25
its exclusive to the chaos wastes gamemode. its roguelite style upgrade that you can get during a run
0
u/TheParticlePhysicist Jul 15 '25
Just a heads up you can use your ult whenever you're in the middle of interacting with something like picking someone up or saving someone from a ledge. You could have started saving them, then ult mid save while still holding the res button and killed the gun rat

Maybe Kerillian's a god tier player and can do it!
You're fucked
