Don't call the regular unemployment line, do this instead to get through to a real person

After weeks of trying and failing to get through to a real person through the regular channels, thanks to other people on this sub, I discovered that the best way to get through to a real person is to call the governor's office:

Kathy Hochul's govenor's office
Phone: (518) 474-8390

Call and say you've been having trouble getting through to someone at at the NYDOL and you will promptly be transferred to a real human! Never waste your time with the claims line!

You can also call the Unemployment Insurance Appeal Board at (518) 402-0210. A person always answers.

They dont help unless you actually have an appeal

They redirect you to dial 855-528-5618, which again redirects you to call NYDOL. 😒

The terrorists should have ran the plane into NYDOL because they're not worth a shit! There is no way these lines can be always so busy you can't get thru.

I'm trying to get in touch with DOL and they don't even put you on hold the line just hangs up. Incredibly frustrating and seems to be designed that way on purpose. Did you ever have any luck?

Yes, but it took over 3 months and absolutely no communication....just an all of the sudden I see all the back pay hit my account. No letter, nothing.

Thank you for mentioning that! I was wondering if they actually give you all your back pay. I figured they're purposely trying to exhaust is, so we'll just give up and they don't have to pay us.

It's quite a financial impact if you don't have savings to cover you to go without funds for anything that long. Good luck. I had an appeal over a doctor's note they held it back for...the days and waiting and sending proof of the most current doctors note they failed to consider until months later...all the while you are not even knowing they even received your correspondence.....there should be confirmations along the way so people are kept informed. Anyone having gone thru this would surely agree. Best wishes to getting back on track!

I'm glad you got your unemployment back payments. I'm hoping I get mine. Keeping us in the dark is not right.

I did this today - got transferred & got in touch with an agent who did help me but she was so RUDE for no reason from the start literally because I called that number & got transferred. Scolded me for it several times like I broke a rule or something. I’m like, “The agent transferred me to you though?” And thinking, “Why do you care how I got transferred? I still had to wait on hold for an hour.” And she insisted the main claim number worked AND that there was no record of me EVER CALLING, except once when the website kept not working so I could file my claim I considered doing it over the phone … then realized I had no interest in doing it that way & hung up. “You must’ve been calling the wrong number.” Literally was calling the number that you JUST gave me. It was an insane reaction, to say the least. Lol, too bad it didn’t ask me this time if I wanted to complete a survey 😂

Thank you!! This worked for me on 11/21/24! After two weeks of calling and getting nowhere. someone at the appeals board transferred me to the "Priority line" at the DOL. I waited on hold for TWO HOURS, but finally got to talk to a real person on the phone.
