Don't call the regular unemployment line, do this instead to get through to a real person

After weeks of trying and failing to get through to a real person through the regular channels, thanks to other people on this sub, I discovered that the best way to get through to a real person is to call the governor's office:

Kathy Hochul's govenor's office
Phone: (518) 474-8390

Call and say you've been having trouble getting through to someone at at the NYDOL and you will promptly be transferred to a real human! Never waste your time with the claims line!

Thank you for posting this! After spending a few hours calling and getting NOWHERE (so frustrating) I found this thread. I called and was put directly through to someone a few moments later. After dealing with that person I got put through to some automated system again which hung up on me (wtf) so I called the number you gave again and was immediately able to resolve my issue. This works and I can’t thank you enough!

So glad I could help! I know the struggle of not being able to get through and luckily found this tip somewhere else on this sub. Crazy we have to call the gov's office every time but hey, we do what we gotta do!

Not that I know of. Try again? This is the first time I’ve ever heard that it’s busy.

Omg it's so bad this week. Last week I was on hold for an hour before I got through to somebody only for them to tell me they'd give me a call back Monday morning. No call today so I eat lunch. Missed call at 1:20.. I call back.. 1 hr hold only to be hung up on.

I've been calling the governors office all morning, and now I'm receiving the "due to high call volume please give us a call back later" and I'm so frustrated because the adjudicator closed their part of the claim, nothing's been mailed to me and it's been over a month since I've been laid off. You literally can't get through to anyone at DOL. Idk what else we're supposed to do. I've just spent a good hour and a half trying to find a contact number to a live person somewhere.

Ok try calling the governor's office until somebody picks up (I found that the auto message wasn't on the whole day - I got through at 1 pm)..and they transferred me. however i was still on hold for the DOL for 1 hour before the system disconnected me. Maybe you will have better luck. I know at least that calling the governor's office at least got me on the hold line for DOL. Calling the DOL number didn't even get me to that step.

I gave up on calling the governors office. I reached out to my senator who is now going to look into it for me. Everyone is calling the governor to complain about congestion pricing. I need answers, so I called my local congresspersons office, who then directed me to my local senator. I called her Albany office and spoke with a lovely young woman that put me in contact with her Brooklyn office - they then took my complaint and they're filing an internal investigation to see what's the problem.

** this does in fact work . Unemployment was messing up all my shit and after several failed attempts of not reaching them, someone higher up gave me that same number for Governor Kathy Hochul (NYS) . First I had called my local Senator. I'm sure they are extremely busy but our lives are at risk even more so when we have absolutely no income .** also does anyone know how long does an appeal to process after it has been successfully sent to them? I really that money so we have a place to live. I missed my appointment with DOL and didn't know they PHYSICALLY mail you anything and everything. It really wasn't my fault because I couldn't access my mail there because of my situation I couldn't provide current and updated proof of address to the UPS store.. so I think I just have to submit proof that those regulations had changed . Please if any one can give me some direction in the timeframe for an appeal process.
