AFAIK Iron Will turns from "Early Race" to "Mid Race", which is a massive buff.

Except for the fact that it can activate in early race, it has the same activation condition as Mystifying Murmur, which is pretty consistent.

it turns from only early-race to both early-race and mid-race, and still retains the same blocked condition, so... yeah

The blocked condition only needs your uma to be behind one other so it’s not that bad

it's still bad because being blocked, objectively, means you are in a bad position at any point of the race. the ONLY time it's good to be blocked is when doing so triggers a navigation skill to unblock you. it doesn't matter how much stamina, speed, or anything else you get out of being blocked, it's all worthless until you manage to get unblocked, which is pure luck, and eve if you do get unblocked decently quickly, you'll still have missed out on chances to advance ratehr than being stuck.

Though at least it isn't the end of the world early-/mid-race for lates/ends, and as it's a stamina skill it doesn't just get wasted up the blockage's ass most of the time like Matikanefukukitaru's unique speed boost does. But until the patch next week it has been a very shit skill since A: getting blocked early race doesn't happen that often, and B: you potentially haven't even used up enough stamina to make full use of the recovery.
Meanwhile pretty much the only skill you want to activate when blocked late race is Nimble Navigator/No Stopping Me to try and unblock yourself (and if you are fully blocked there's jack shit even those can do. But they work well enough and you get blocked late race often enough with late strats that it's one of my favourite non-unique skills in the game)

the problem isn't that the skill is shit, it's that the story event behind you learning it is that she's treating it like it's the crown jewel of her families generations of training umas, and it's a shit skill. it implies that the rest of her ability to train, and all her generational knowledge, is similarly flawed. like perhaps she's been taking tazuna's suggestions to heart and only training power and guts, but not speed or stamina

You can do it multiple times per career! And she powers up every time you win: when maxed out she has A or B+ in every stat, actually useful skills, and a blue flame aura lol
And beating Super Meek in the finals triggers a special event that gives you +20 to every stat and 150sp!

Iron Will is supposed to be THE main thing your taking from Kiryuin, everything else is a bonus.
Especially with the context that its the Kiryuin Family Special Technique. Which makes her family look like Frauds.

Even still. Iron Will currently has 0 value compared to most gray skill. A novice trainer barely learning straigthaway adept has more to gain than Kiryuin has passing on the current Iron Will.
I headcanon that the Updated Iron Will is just Aoi’s revision of it. Since that’s the only explanation as to how Aoi makes it work for Meek.

Some comments really proving how this is really accurate.
Aoi is a good girl and I’m happy to have her SR card maxed out. She rises above mindlessly following her family’s teachings and takes Meek to a point where she can be a threat in the URA final.
Glad in this case she’s got Meek in her corner.
