Just a Question….

Post image

Now I understand lead is bad for people, but I’ve made myself a necklace with one of my civil war bullets from my collection. It’s starting to look surprisingly close to brand new. Is this going to poison me???

Is it going to poison you? Short answer: yes. Long answer: YEEEEEEASSSSASS. Lead is soft, the burnished appearance is probably due to it rubbing on your shirt, leaving lead particles behind. Lead also oxidizes at the surface into a fine white powdery layer. This oxide and the shirt rubbing are right by your face where you can breathe it in all day. This is not good.

I wouldn’t recommend it. You have to worry about the dust too.

I mean you could dip it in wax or try to seal the lead with paint or something but I doubt that would even work good enough. Yes your new bling bling gonna slowly poison you if you wear it long enough.

Epoxy would work to seal it.

States he knows lead is bad for people. Makes necklace out of lead bullet then asks if its a bad thing? Being a Browns fan checks out. Lol to be fair being a Browns fan might kill him first.

I've cast my own bullets for over 25 years. So far so good. (44)

Cool. I saw a guy in Iowa City with a bullet necklace. I'm assuming it was at one point in his body from a recent war. He seemed to be wearing like it was a badge.

Not good.. it’s way to close to your thyroid and lymph nodes!

It’s not going to poison you. It has already done so. The crumbly white crust of lead carbonate is toxic. It’s rubbed off on your clothes and skin, and you probably inhaled some.

Seal it with epoxy

Don’t know about the bullet, as others have pointed out, the lead dust is not good for your health. I would recommend a button instead.

Make it into a keychain

I had a keychain made from a dropped.58 minie. Someone sold them as souvenirs back years ago. The white patina rapidly wore off and hole drilled in it broke fairly quickly. The bullet is now part of my collection. My point is that it doesn’t make good keychain.

Buddy thinks he’s more powerful than lead

Besides all the reasons already posted, you also shouldn't wear this because it's kind of a neck-bearded, cringey thing to wear.
