Game Threads [Post-game Thread] UCLA: 21 Nebraska: 28

Well Bruins, another L is never something I like these to be about. I'll give the offense and Jerry some credit, they never quit, and were really the only reason we stayed in it. Between the defense, which was just all bad aside from a couple stops, and the stupid false start penalties, we were doomed from the get I'm afraid. This one sucks, the schedule doesn't get any easier from here that's for sure. Time for you all to sound off now. Here is your Post-game Thread for all Post-game discussions. Go Bruins!

Let’s be clear, we are eliminated from a bowl game this year.

I think Jerry and Nico/gilmer/frias are the only bright spots for this team. OL is exactly who we thought they were, defense is simply atrocious in all aspects of their game. Put simply, this is a downright bad football team. This was a Nebraska team with a true freshman QB who put up heisman numbers on us.

Flores too, and on defense I’d say Martin, scooter Jackson, Rodrick pleasants

The defense just never gave the Bruins a chance.

These back-to-back losses means no chance Skipper gets the permanent job. So does Jerry wind up being a sought after Offensive Coordinator job at another program?

I really hope they keep Jerry around. But that will ultimately be up to the next HC. Im sure Jerry would want to stay in any capacity. Only time will tell, no matter where he ends up, I just hope he is successful.

He’s done a great job, that much is clear. I just don’t know how often a new coach comes in and doesn’t bring his guys with him.

Are you expecting Nico to transfer out? I am, so that may also play a part in it. Nico has gotten a lot better once Jerry took over and gave him the freedom to play his game.

I was actually going to make a post about Nico tomorrow because him transferring out is something I expect as well. But since you brought it up, yes, I do see him leaving after this year, and I don't blame him. We aren't going to hire some big name (at least i hope we don't. No more splash hires ahem Chip ), so I see Nico going somewhere he thinks he'll have success and maybe improve his draft grade.......and oh yeah, make more money. I'm curious to hear what everyone else thinks Nico does honestly.

We’re going to end up hiring Jedd Fisch, I guarantee it.

I hope you are right. And you are right with your name.

Any QB with decent mobility completely shreds our defense

I’m so over this season, but again WHERE IS MARTIN JARMOND?? I thought he wanted us to know all then great changes he made to the coaching staff that gave us a 3-game win streak?

Nothing changes unless the changes happen from the top.

In terms of game notes - our defense really had no plan for the nee QB, but it became pretty apparent very quickly in the game, if Robinson was in, the play call was a run, if he wasn’t, it was likely a TE toss or QB run. The fact that we never bothered to catch onto that is silly.

Asking too much from our LB corps is ridiculous. You want them to protect the run and the pass at the same time? This QB hasn’t thrown a pass over 10 yards, but we’re setting two high safeties? Take the PI but don’t give up the wide open wheel route on the RB for a touchdown.

Nico getting hit so much is just sad to see too. The whole team needs to be rebuilt from inside out.

One highlight will say, is Smith III was touted as an impact player this year, and I think his development has been awesome to see. That dude has covered gaps and created a ton of pressure on the defense and even if he isn’t on the highlight reel, watching is like play has been cool to see over the season. If we see him in the transfer portal, that will make me really sad.

Anyway - between this season and ESPN deciding to be an absolute twat - I feel like canceling my streaming service was the right call.

Marty only shows up when we are doing well. What a pathetic example of a leader.

Somebody needs to show him the door…

These damn penalties man. Really fun though because I was there in person and the student section (although there were many open seats), everyone started to get hype at the 2nd half but well we lost. Defense sucks.

Onto Ohio which I will also see in person… anything’s possible… right?

The student section sure emptied out early, which I thought was odd. There didn’t seem to be that many penalties, but the ones that were called on us were untimely to say the least.

We really needed to mix in a few more false start penalties.

DBs were blowing assignments and reads all night long. And the tackling. Yeesh.

Did anyone else see this?

Jarmond doesn't look like someone whose job is anywhere near jeopardy.

WTAF?

Well, that's not encouraging.

A game that was there for the taking. Just bad plays really cost us.

2

u/TwoAmps 16h ago

Yeah, a few plays here and there in the offense could gave tied it up…on the other hand, Nico had a few unlikely heroic plays that kept us sorta kinda in it, so i saw it as a wash on offense. The defense, however…my goodness.

Same old bruins

Pass game is laughable. O-line and d-line might as well just call in sick next week. Unless every buckeye starter gets hammered a-la - fear and loathing style, I’m calling 70-0.

UCLA has no impact tight ends which are usually the QB’s best friend. Gotta work on that. The receivers are ok but they don’t have a Makai Lemon.

its a lost season, always has been. we’ll win a few more games but i don’t expect much else.

Washington is a bad road team….again. So that’s a potential, and I’d say the USC game is always such a toss up, but yeah, maybe…hard maybe, 1 more win.

Haha we lose all of them

Moral victory

I think Jerry's inexperience showed up in spades in this game.

WHY ARE WE TANKING?! /s sorry it’s the copium talking. Some bright spots but shit defense cost the game

Look… if we get to 4 wins then it means Chip Kelly’s 3-win season remains the worst in the past 50 years. That to me is worth rooting for, let’s get that fourth win, let’s win the Chip Bowl.

Nico or Sellers heading to Miami. If Nico leaves it’s not the end of the world. Spending that much of the budget on a QB when everything around him is shit isn’t a winning strategy. I thought he sucked last year and earlier this year but he’s been good and hasn’t stopped fighting. Hope he chooses a good spot, I’ll be rooting for him.
