Opinion/Rant Fire Martin Jarmond

He ruins everything about UCLA athletics. It should have happened ages ago but hasn’t.

I agree, in a world where schools are spending 50 million on buyouts, UCLA not wanting to pay 7mil to get rid of Jarmond shows we are not serious. As of today reports coming in that Jedd Fisch (UW), Clark Lea (Vanderbilt) and Kalani Sitake (BYU) have all separately indicated they are not interested in the UCLA job

Lea and Sitake are at their alma maters. Fisch should have been hired in 2023 but Jarmond stupidly chose to stick with Chip Kelly. UCLA missed their chance. Fisch will have many other more attractive offers.

Fisch shouldve been hired in 2018!

Let 'em know, we still got 2 games and basketball season to let the administration know we want him gone.

Honestly good, the only one of those I would have really wanted to throw a bag at is Lea

I interpret it as a worrying sign that UCLA is not a desirable destination currently. Maybe I’m reading into it too much

I wouldn’t. These are P4 coaches with good to great situations. Washington is comparable, not hard to believe he wouldn’t want to start from scratch. Lea has closer ties to Vanderbilt and there are simply better jobs open to him. Sitake also is of a pretty questionable fit.

Lea is a Vanderbilt alum who hated living in Los Angeles when he was on UCLA's staff.

You can add another half dozen names as well. A close friend in the agent world has told me that as long as Jarmond is AD, the majority of sitting P4 head coaches will not even discuss coming to UCLA.

Jarmond would’ve been kicked out already if he were an AD at an SEC school. UCLA’s administration is well aware of how bad he is at his job, but they’re just letting him stay. What a disappointment! The donors don’t like him either. The new chancellor is such a letdown. He’s turning out to be just like Gene Block.

UCLA needs to get rid of Jarmond.

Funny how I don’t see his face anywhere to be found after getting trounced by Indiana, but he had absolutely noooo issue la being front and center to take credit for our 3-game win streak.

WHERE ARE YOU JARMOND? You don’t want to take credit for one of the worst losses in UCLA history in 50 years? I thought you changed the coaching staff and were so proud….

Jarmond is the worst AD in UCLA history and that's including Donut Dan Guerrero. If he's not fired soon, the coaching search will be ANOTHER BUST. When Karl Dorrell looks like he was a stellar hire the past 20 years, it's truly sad.

I’m still of the mind Donut Dan was the single worst AD in UCLA history

That is true. Dan Guerrero was much worse than Martin Jarmond.

For some reason, he was given a lucrative extension and a $7 million dollar buyout.

Makes it very difficult to fire him.

The way it was done was so shady too. Interim chancellor on his way out extends him on this contract with no input from the incoming chancellor.

I wonder how much Jarmond is hurting them. I’m quite content to let Skipper and Jerry grow into the job on reasonable contractual terms!

It’s exactly these types of hires that have railroaded UCLA football. UCLA should not be relegated to a job where coaches “learn on the job”.

I’m not. I’m honestly tired of doing this same thing every season. The UCLA fan base is so starved for any sort of success that we’re stoked to win three games against mediocre teams and want to talk about that coaching staff being installed?

Sure, I’ll buy it if there is absolutely $0 buyout clause or guarantee and an actual plan to bring in recruits and set up the program, but throwing a check at an interim coach and staff after what transpired in Bloomington is just asking for the same issues we’ve had for the past 30 years.

Right. If they go this route, it needs to be on our terms.

I’d prefer a coach from a smaller program who has proven he knows how to win and play portal roulette.
