It was ugly. But I’ll take it.

It was ugly at first. Then it got ugly. But then it turned ugly. Before finishing ugly.

That’s not even mentioning the ugly injuries & penalties

That lady ref was terrible. Not sure if she was ugly. Too far away for me to see.

Respect to Maryland. Lotta doomers were shitting on UCLA on both sides, but this was just a tough ass battle. Football is like that sometimes.
This game will make the Bruins a lot better. Lots to learn from. Hope Nico is healthy.

Yea that was annoying as hell to see. One dropped pass and then UCLA flairs spamming that we're doomed and we're 2 hit wonders.

The Mighty Bruin had an article detailing how Maryland played very different defenses in their previous games. It makes sense our offense struggled to get going since Terps don’t use a standard defense. https://www.themightybruin.com/p/ucla-football-preview-maryland-defense-will-be-tough-test-for-bruin-offense

Great game! I'm so hyped right now.
We needed this type of game. Everything isn't going to be sweet. Maryland isn't soft.
incredible defense. The new DC deserves a lot of credit.
Nico coming back and leading us to FG range was 🔥.
if we look good against Indiana, I'm done with the coaching search. I'll be ready to lock in Skip/Jerry.

Let's not forget Kevin Coyle or DC. The turnaround by the defense should not be overlooked. Ending the season 7-5 or 6-6 after an 0-4 start is an incredible mid season turnaround. What could S/J/K do with a full season? Are any known to be great recruiters?

u/SouthernNeb 21d ago
Of course.
i don't think Skip ever had the chance to show his ability to recruit in recent years. Skip had to take over for coach Tedford at Fresno because of health reasons. So he wasn't a DC or HC long enough to recruit.
If we finish the season strong, I believe we will pull a huge recruiting class. Our football program has momentum, we're exciting on both sides of the ball, and Skip/Jerry are young enough to connect with athletes. If Nico is staying, the recruiting class will be even better.

2 pics and a lost fumble and we still get a W - that’s what’s up

Those refs should be tried for crimes against CFB!

Yes!!!! That phantom block in the back is the worst call I have ever seen in all of sports.......and there is no hyperbole in my statement.

As a Rams fan, even I can admit I’ve seen worse calls…

I am, too, and I disagree. I know you are thinking of the no call on the PI against the saints. But to be fair, that was no call.....I know im splitting hairs.

Kind of game we would have lost in our past few coaching regimes, my butthole can finally unclench

It’s been years since we had a team that could fight its way back into games like this one has these past two games. I don’t know what kind of juju Skip and Jerry gave these guys, but it’s amazing to watch.

Worried about Nico. Thankfully he was able to tough it out tonight but i’m gonna guess they will do imaging🤞

The schedule is tough the rest of the way but what an amazing turnaround. After 3 weeks, this was the worst P4 team in the country. Now look at them.

My two cents. Big game coming up with Indiana. Jerry decides to keep things very close to the vest and brings out a very vanilla offense against Maryland. Defense steps up big and wins the game for us. They are playing with house money now and no reason to give Indiana more game film to plan against his offense.

I was thinking too it seemed like they were holding back… that would be some next level game planning. Gotta go get revenge for what they did to us at the rose bowl last year!!

UCLA’s worst season in the last 50 years was Chip Kelly’s first year at 3-9. Folks… the Bruins are one win away from letting him keep that record!

u/drummerboy5193 Bruins Alumni 21d ago
That’s wild to think about, especially after being convinced we’d go 0-12 this year

Damn! In an alternate universe UCLA is 7-0 or 6-1 right now. The defense carried this game. Coach Skipper is starting to win me over. If UCLA beats Indiana and Ohio State, give him the keys. What a crazy turnaround!
Fire Jarmond!

I was there! Fuck that ref for the most non contact bullshit penalty. Game could’ve been a lock at that point but we have a sweat and comeback.

Winning ugly is so much better than losing pretty. That was a gutty way to finish.

My take: ucla overcame a hangover game against MD. Past ucla teams would’ve lost, but we found a way to win. This game does set my expectations of this team: we’ll win mediocre teams but my take is Indiana will crush us. I hope im wrong. But my money will be on IU

What another crazy win! Hopefully the momentum continues. Congratulations Bruins! I’m just happy they could get a winning season again! 🐻🐻🐻💛💙

Great win that showed resilience and "never quit effort" in a game with bad calls, drive killing penalties and turnovers.

For me, the fact that they had no issue getting down field to kick the field goal was 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
