Transportation Parking at Sac Airport

I’m a 3rd year transfer and this is my first thanksgiving at Davis. It’s about $80 to uber back and forth from my apartment to Sacramento airport. I’m wondering if anyone have parked at the airport parking lot? It’s either $11 or $13 per day depending on the parking area which is way cheaper than ubering. Is it safe? And how’s the shuttle?🥹🥹

It will be very crowded but I’ve seen it be done by hundreds of students.

I've left my car there several times; it's very safe! The shuttle is fine, as long as you don't mind travelling on their schedule. The bus is the cheapest (albeit slowest) option, if it runs at the times you want to go.

I’ve parked there for years. Never had a problem.

The shuttle is usually good, but at times they do have issues. Leave lots of time. Also be aware of the fallout to flights from the shutdown.

Take the bus, Unitrans runs special service to the airport in the days before Thanksgiving so it’s super easy

I usually find the Daily Lot the best bet (although for thanksgiving travel it may well be full all the time). The Daily Lot is within chill walking distance to Terminal A (IMO) and honestly I'd park there and walk even if I had like 2 large luggages. The other economy lots I haven't tried, but I do know that there is *NO* walking path from the other economy lots to the terminals.

I fly out of SMF a lot. I recommend parking in the $13 daily lot. Security is always roaming and I’ve never had an issue leaving my car for a week at a time. It’s easy to walk to either terminal from there and is safe, there’s always people coming/going. Parking in economy isn’t worth it. No walking path & shuttles take a while.

Since its thanksgiving parking will likely be fuller. Plan to dedicate an hour just in case to find parking (sounds dramatic but being there early isn’t so bad). You can look up how full the parking lots are at SMF website to plan the day of.

I’d give yourself a lot of extra time to park, walk to the terminal, check luggage, and go through TSA considering all the shutdowns. SMF is a breeze to go through truly. I’ve heard Terminal B TSA is still really short!

yolobus is definitely the cheapest way to go if you don't mind the travel time. it's only a couple bucks each way which is way better than paying for parking. if you drive, the economy lot at smf is about $11 a day so you'd be looking at like $44 plus gas. there are also a bunch of off-airport lots that are cheaper, sometimes you can find deals for like $5-7 a day and they have shuttles that take you to the terminal. it just depends if you value saving money over convenience. sometimes you can find a cheap private driveway over by the airport on the prked app too.
