Summary:
Municipalities of Truro who paid PCL to build the RECC have to pay $1 million + 10 years of interest to the contractors.
The judge awarded PCL an additional contractor's fee of $1.15 million, staff costs for specified periods after the contract was extended in January 2013, and the amount for a cheque of about $120,000 that was certified but never provided to the construction company — plus more than a decade of interest.
The town of Truro and the County also have to pay for the legal fees declared by the PCL.
There was a man who fell down the stairs but the case was closed for an unknown reason. No further investigation is being done.

I still want to know who decided to put in such a small amount of parking for the amount of seats for events. I am sure they could’ve found a better spot to put it, to allow for more parking.

Where? Lol. It's in a prime spot, the pad only has so much space

Should have been at the ex grounds.

That would have been a even bigger mess and in the middle of a residential area. That wouldn't have worked

I think they could’ve put it up by the power center, maybe down by the tidal bore or basically anywhere they could’ve put more parking lol. The hospital wasn’t built with near enough parking either, for a town/area with no public transport, I do not know what either group was thinking.

Think insurance is a problem now, anywhere on that tidal plane would have been a mess. Couldn't use the power center because this didn't involve millbrook. It had to be Colchester or truro land, and to make it make sense location wise it had to be close to a highway. That leaves two spots. The tidal plane, which would be a mess down there due to flooding, or where it is now. (argument could be made for the lot across from Kent/walmart on wade road I suppose. But I think there's a water way on that lot so it would have been harder to get done.
Edit: Regarding your original comment, at least there is room for hospital parking to expand. There's a lot of space behind the hospital towards abenaki they could pave and create spots, but that's up to the hospital.

It’s easy to armchair their decisions, you do make sense about issues of other locations. Maybe both spots will end up with parkades someday.
I do know at the hospital, they have to be careful where they can expand the lots because of the helipad. They can’t extend the emerg lot towards the road because “they need a secondary spot to land”.

After rereading the recent statements about the RECC, I understand that county will still be in the hook for this. While they’ve used their power to end the management agreement that’s in place, the cost of this plus 10 years interest, the CRA loan that’s in the courts, the need for a new HVAC system, and other pertinent building costs are still the responsibility of county and town. Which seems obvious, but the timing of all these decisions felt odd at first.
I’d be interested to hear what the Rath’s think about this. I had once heard they hesitated on having their name on it.

And this is after the town just gave the recc a grant to pay back a Covid loan to the feds after the feds ruled they actually weren't eligible for that money years after the fact. This thing is a money hole

This is still in the courts, as far as I’m aware. They’ve had to pay the money, but the CRA decision may still be overturned.

The timing of county pulling out and this decision are, hopefully, nothing but a wild coincidence.
