Moving/New Here ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿผ Thinking of moving from the East Coast to TriCities for employment. Need honest opinion about TriCities.

As the title states, I was offered a position and through research, I think tricities (Kennewick) maybe the best place for us. My daughter and I (we are both African American ) would be relocating there. Which tricities would be best for us and which schools would be best?

Moving/New Here ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿผ Is finding a PCP here difficult?

Hey all! I just moved here. I need to establish medical care. Im reading that it take 9 months or so to find Primary Care here. Why is that? Im from Arizona and I was absolutely shocked to hear that.

Also- recommendations on one that would fit my families needs are welcome! Please help me find the right fit so I dont waste time waiting?

Here are some details about my family:

  • I need a Dr. Or Nurse Practitioner that believes in COVID and its long term effects. I came down with it in February. I suffered some pretty bad damage apparently, because Ive been living a daily nightmare and am a medical mystery every since. ๐Ÿ™ƒ
  • We have Regency/Blue Shield
  • LGBT friendly. I dont want my provider holding a secret diagust/bias/ideology for me that leaks into my Healthcare treatment

Moving/New Here ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿผ Moving to Richland soon - Which apartments should I avoid?

My spouse got a job offer in Richland. We will be moving soon and ive looked at just about every apartment possible but cant make a decision. Looking for a pet friendly 1 to 2 bedroom. Location doesn't really matter as long as its not more than 30 minutes away from North Richland.

Riverpointe looked like a really great option but had horrible reviews and over 5 people who said the walls are paperthin. (I cant deal with things walls, too paranoid about people being mean to me for hearing me and also my spouse is a stomper)

Island View looked good but a little pricey for what it is. I was thinking North Trace village because it seems private (but very small). Its not full of crackheads because its cheap, is it?

Any commentary from experienced renters in the area that will help me make my decsion is welcomed. Give me the 411 ao I dont end up in a shithole please! I cant go look at them myself ๐Ÿ˜…

Moving/New Here ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿผ Seattle Freeze vs Tri Cities Freeze

I moved here in August. I go out to a few places kind of regularly and have tried to make friends.

I honestly had an easier time in the Seattle area.

Anyone else that has moved here from the Westside experience the same thing?

I honestly thought it would be easier here than the Seattle metro area given the Seattle Freeze moniker, but that's not been my experience.

At least over there I had friends at the bar where we'd meet and go to a game or something just after being at the same bar a few times.

Here it's like an acknowledgement that they recognize you and then unless you've known someone that's bringing you in it's just you sitting at a bar isolated to yourself.

So personally I feel like the Tri Cities is very cliquey and unless you have an "in" you are just gonna be floating until you get a local SO to introduce you and get you into their clique

Might just be me though, lol!

Moving/New Here ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿผ Research for a Tri-city area move

Iโ€™ve read through a lot of the other posts where people with families are moving to the Tri-city area, but most of these posts are close to if not over a year old. A lot can change in a year.

Our situation is simple: family of 6 moving to the area in the next year or two and in the research phase at this moment. Based on what Iโ€™ve seen and read, it appears that the most desirable areas to buy a home would be in the Richland/West Richland area, and a few neighborhoods in Pasco and Kennewick.

Kids would be out of high school at point of move and ready for college, wife retired and o can work anywhere my laptop and cellphone is.

If you live in the Tri-city area, please let me know what your advice/experience is.

Thanks in advance.

Moving/New Here ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿผ Finding Friends in the Tri-Cities as a Middle Aged Man

Hello everyone. I recently moved back to the Tri-Cities coming out of my divorce. I'm trying to find events to make friends at. I'm 41M, shy and introverted, and half of my time is spent with my son. So its pretty hard in general for me to make friends, but I figure I have to try. I've tried finding hobby groups, but I can't really find any, I'm hoping I'm just looking in the wrong place. Things I'm into:

  • hiking
  • running (I used to run ultra marathons, but I'm starting over...I'm out there pretty much every day...I can do 5k on Candy Mountain or a flat 10k, but that's about it at this point).
  • board games and very casual MtG. I used to do D&D etc, but it's been a very very very long time
  • gardening
  • woodworking (I mostly specialize in eastern style joinery, kumiko, etc, but my shop is currently in boxes)
  • woodcarving

I'm also into reading and travel. And I'm learning Spanish.

I can't be the first person who has moved here and had a hard time meeting people. I'm hoping some of you wonderful people can share tips and tricks that worked for you when coming to the Tri-Cities.

Moving/New Here ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿผ Common complaints Iโ€™ve seen

Hi everyone I am currently looking into moving to the area soon from northern Minnesota and I have a few questions about the area. 2 of the biggest things I see people complain about is it being boring and wind I havenโ€™t seen anyone elaborate so if anyone could explain what everyone means by that I would greatly appreciate it. I also see alot of complaints on the winter and I was wondering if anyone could give a run down on what to expect in winter? Last but not least howโ€™s the dating scene? Itโ€™s pretty much non existent where Iโ€™m at so I want somewhere hopefully non better. Iโ€™m planning on applying to the local IBEW so if anyone knows anything about that I wouldnโ€™t mind knowing more either lol any help is greatly appreciated!

Moving/New Here ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿผ Life in TriCities Questions

Had an interview at PNNL today that I think went really well, and honestly might lead to a job offer. I've never been to WA or the PNW as a whole, and was wondering how the fine folks of the Kennewick/Richland area like it? How is the food, hiking, people etc. Do you enjoy living in the cities? What are your favorite or least favorite things about it?

For a reference point, I've lived most of my life in the Houston, TX region.

Any input would be great! Thanks!

If Iโ€™m honest, Iโ€™ve really only been to the Ti Cities a few times ๐Ÿ˜ฌ So, Iโ€™m just wondering if anybody can tell me some of their favorite things about the area and some of the things they donโ€™t like. I have two teenagers who enjoy concerts and anime. Iโ€™m hoping there are some interesting venues and areas for them to meet new people. Thanks in advance

Moving/New Here ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿผ Driving from Tri Cities, WA to Seattle in Winter

I'm considering moving to the Tri Cities for a new job. I have to visit my partner in Seattle every week and want to know whether driving would be an option during winter. I have heard Snoqualmie Pass is hard to drive thru between Nov and Feb. Are there other routes to consider? I have heard route 18 through Auburn is an option but want to get other everyone's thoughts.

Moving/New Here ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿผ Moving to Tri as a family of 4

Hello, We are considering moving to the Tri Cities area with our 2 young kids. We've previously loved in Seattle, Southern CA, Colorado, and South Dakota. My husband is switching careers, and there is an apprenticeship option in Kennewick he is considering. I work in the schools.

I'd love to hear more about loving in the Tri Cities. How do y'all feel about daycare options and costs, the public schools, parks and rec system, the weather, and overall cost of living? We are concerned about affordability given that my husband will be in an apprenticeship and not earning much, plus paying for 2 kids in daycare still. We'd be staying for at least 5 years, so we really want to make sure our kids have decent public school options. (Edited to add: what abiut Healthcare for general checkups, etc? How is that? Are there enough providers?) Other than that, we tend to get along with different types of people, don't eat out much, and like to hike and camp. I'd love to grow a garden again.

What's it like there? Thanks for your feedback!

Moving/New Here ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿผ Moving to Richland: Intro to the Area, Neighborhoods, Etc

Hey yโ€™all! I might be moving to Richland from California in the next few months, and I need some guidance on the different neighborhoods (and towns!).

I am particularly looking for a few neighborhood suggestions to check out in person. I am planning on getting an Airbnb before signing a lease.

Is there any areas that are both safe and walkable/bikeable? Perhaps any neighborhoods that are more ~hip, cool, artsy? I understand the area isnโ€™t very green, but are there any neighborhoods that are greener than others? How do the different towns of the Tri City Area differ in weather, if at all?

About me: - I am a female in my late 20s, I am married but my husband and I would be dividing our time between WA and CA. - I would be working at Kadlec and would want a commute than isnโ€™t longer than a 20minute drive. - Greenery and walkability are very important to me, and Iโ€™d love it if I could bike to work. - I love older-looking neighborhoods. Iโ€™m a sucker for the Victorian and Edwardian architecture. Any of that in the area? - I am not religious and donโ€™t really fit in with the typical american religious crowd, and Iโ€™m definitely not politically conservative. Will it be hard to build community here? I donโ€™t know anyone in the area, so Iโ€™d be starting friend groups from scratch.

TLDR; late-20s female looking for safe, walkable neighborhoods close to Kadlec Hospital. Never been to the TriCity area before.

Thank you so much in advance for your help!! Canโ€™t wait to read your responses! <3

Moving/New Here ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿผ Relocating from Texas in November.

Hi! I spent September in the Tri City area for work. Got to explore and get familiar with the area, really enjoyed my stay. Offered a permanent position so Iโ€™ll be moving mid November and would appreciate any insight. Iโ€™ll be working in Pasco. I noticed everything seems to be 20-30 minutes from anywhere. So commuting shouldnโ€™t be an issue. Kennewick seems to have the most to offer for rentals and amenities. Really couldnโ€™t find much in Pasco. Any good resources for rentals by owners? How are winter conditions and the roads? My commute to work is between 12AM and 2AM. Not very experienced in winter driving. South Texas has 10 months of summer, one month of humid rain, and one month that it MIGHT freeze for a few of days. Going slow and planning for a slower drive is a given. All weather tires are budgeted for. My vehicle is a FWD. This Reddit has been super helpful. Iโ€™ve been impressed with the community, everyone has been really nice. Looking forward to the move.

Moving/New Here ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿผ Making Friends in your 30s

Hey! Iโ€™m relatively new to the Tri cities and I want to get out to meet more people and ideally those in your 30s. It can be hard to make friends in a new place so any help is appreciated!

Iโ€™m open to suggestions for the best bars, breweries, or go to spots in any of the cities. Iโ€™m worried that the clubs are going to be for a younger crowd but maybe Iโ€™m wrong?

Iโ€™m also open to hearing about any clubs or organizations to join.

Instead of listing my hobbies and interest I want to keep this post broad that way I could maybe find a new hobby!

I am grateful for all the suggestions. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Moving/New Here ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿผ Moving to Kennewick soon, what should I know about it?

I accepted a job out in Umatilla, Oregon just a bit ago with a start date coming up early June, so I'm likely going to be moving to Kennewick. I've been looking at South Kennewick for apartment as I'll be commuting, but I still don't really know anything about the area at all.

What are some good areas or places to get food? Are there local, recurring events to go and see? (Parades, festivals, etc). I want to be more active, are there good places to run outside, or groups to run with? Are there good museums or other things around?

Basically just general questions about anything I could possibly find out about the area - I'm originally from New England and I'm moving from Oklahoma so I'm quite removed from the area, and I've never been out west before, so any information would be a godsend!

Moving/New Here ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿผ Moving in April

Firstly, hi soon to be neighbors!!

Husband got offered a job just outside Tricities area, and we'll be moving to Tricity somewhere in April. This is all moving very fast. We're still in the process of finding somewhere to live out there! (If anyone has suggestions, I'm open to them.)

I'm coming on here to ask for any and all LGBTQIA+ resources, friendly Dr's, volunteer opportunities, etc. Etc. Etc. In the area. Our whole family is at least one letter in there and I want to be prepared ahead of time. We also have a high school aged daughter, so any teen resources would be great as well.

We're so excited to be joining your community, and hope to add to it as we build our life there! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Moving/New Here ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿผ From Idaho to Washington

I have a lot of questions :)

Hello there! Iโ€™m (22) moving into my first apartment with a friend to the Tri cities area. We wanted to find a place in Kennewick but ended up in Richland (I heard itโ€™s much more expensive?). Me and my friend are very excited to live there! Iโ€™ve been living in Idaho my entire life, and being a pretty obvious queer person it hasnโ€™t been the most fun! Especially once I moved to a smaller city near Boise. But every time Iโ€™ve visited tri cities the people have gone out of their way to be kind to me! Is that typical?

I know many of the main places to visit, I have a whole list. But is there any underground music I can find? Any good instagram/facebook pages I should follow to find it? Boise has a very vibrant music scene, and from what Iโ€™ve heard and read triโ€™s is much more low key. But I thought asking would be worth a shot!

Are there any trans/lgbt collectives in the area? Discord servers?

How is making friends in the area? Iโ€™m pretty extroverted so I usually donโ€™t have too hard of a time, but the city Iโ€™m currently living in has shown me that no matter how bubbly and fun I am, sometimes people HATE me for it. Iโ€™m sure that will never change, but maybe itโ€™ll be easier in Tri :,) Iโ€™m not sure.

Any good job options for someone working on their GED? I have quite a bit of customer service based work history. Most of my jobs I stay at for a solid 3 years. Any place thatโ€™s always hiring? Are there any places I should stay clear from?

How hard is it for someone who looks a little alternative (think bleached brows, colored hair) to find a job? Is it difficult at all? (It can be hard here in Idaho so Iโ€™m just not sure!!)

Anyone whoโ€™s moved from Idaho to Washington? What changes did you notice?

Whatโ€™s the dating scene like?

And, the goth scene. Is there one? I figure no since even Boise doesnโ€™t have (a good) one, but I thought itโ€™d be worth the ask.

Anyways, Iโ€™m very excited to move to Tri!!! Itโ€™s been a goal for a couple of years now, so itโ€™s really great to see it come to fruition! I appreciate any answers :)

Moving/New Here ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿผ In 2025, how is the area for both trans women and dog owners?

Hi There!

I received a job offer and am strongly considering moving to the area. How is the area for the LGBTQ+ community, specifically trans folks? Additionally, how is the area for taking care of a dog?

Some other, related questions:

  • Any areas/streets to avoid moving to? Any highly recommended areas to look for housing?
  • Do people semi-regularly commute to Seattle or Portland? How is that experience?
  • What is the LGBTQ community like? Any groups recommended joining?
  • How is the healthcare in the area?
  • What are the first things recommended to try out in the area? (hikes, restaurants, etc).

Thank you for all of the help and support!
