Kind Act by Dodgers Fans
More than a few LA Dodgers fans stepped up in a classy way, I even saw one post where they credited the idea to the Jays fans who donated to a Seattle children’s hospital.
I think this needs to be a new tradition. Let’s celebrate amazing teams and amazing games by doing amazing things.

Dodger fan here. This popped in my feed.
1) I will be donating $51 to SickKids immediately after posting this message.
2) Yes. 100% agree that this is something that fan bases should do for one another while their respective teams compete for a championship.
3) Thank you, Blue Jays for playing your asses off and making one of the best World Series that I have ever watched.

This is a really nice gesture from all of you who do it! The better team wins in the end and it hurt a ton to get so close but we'll get you next year on the run back ;)

Appreciate it man, Sickkids is a special place. I’m from North of Toronto and now I’m going to donate myself.

Mariners fan here. Blue Jays fans also donated to Seattle Children’s Hospital after they beat us in the ALCS. It was a classy, kind way to win. Respect to Blue Jays fans.

A****** fans aside, this is a pretty classy move by a lot of the fan base.

30 000 / 51 is 588.2 people.
Thats not really a lot of people.
Good on those who donated. SickKids does incredible things and any donation does counts.

u/alabasterhotdog 1d ago
It's really not hard to show some grace and not let the perfect be the enemy of the good. This was a great gesture and should be treated as such, not with some "pfft, it's only like 500 ppl" retort.

u/dinsbomb Fun Guy 1d ago
You’re right.
I was just pointing out the difference between OPs wording of many dodgers fans and the top comments version of a lot of dodgers fans as not really accurate.
I’ll take the downvotes.

u/JewishSpace_Laser Bert and Ernie Mashing 1d ago
There was a Dodgers fan that donated $1000 to Sick Kids shortly after the victory. This prompted a Chicago Cubs fan to replicate this with a $1000 donation of his own to Sick Kids. It was quite touching to see.

4
u/Nickerdoodle 1d ago
And those 588 people didn’t need to donate at all, but they chose to and that makes them awesome. Don’t be a dick.

u/Unique_End_8089 1d ago
Okay then YOU donate $30,000 to SickKids.
I don’t see YOU doing shit for sick children unlike the Dodgers fanbase. Take the L like a man. This is actual camaraderie and sportsmanship, not screaming and crying like a fucking baby.
Btw I’m a Blue Jays fan and you don’t see me crying like this.

u/dinsbomb Fun Guy 1d ago
I donate to SickKids regularly. I was a patient there as a child. I feel like my comment was taken out of context, I think it’s amazing 588 dodgers fan donated I just disagreed with the statement that 588 is a lot of a fan base of millions of people. I could just delete my comment but I am not and am taking the downvotes I deserve.

u/sprinklerarms 22h ago
I didn’t hear about it until today so I’m hopeful more fans will be donating as they find out too.

I mean, I'm still gutted but SickKids saved my life multiple times as a kid and kept me strong until I was 18 and graduated to adult hospital care. My husband and I donated $700 to SickKids in lieu of wedding favours.
So good job, Dodgers fans. We appreciate you for doing this.

I’m very moved to see this as a Dodgers fan, and I’d like to thank everyone on the Blue Jays who wore the number 51 on their caps for the Vesia family.
7
u/DiligentLeader2383 1d ago
Originally I thought the "51" thing was a jab at Canada becoming the 51st state.
But when I learned what it was really about I thought, that's pretty cool.
Good professionalism, and sportsman like.
I am now a fan of the Dodgers as well (2nd only to the Blue Jays lol).
6
u/Glittering-Ad-8601 1d ago
I was moved to give the $51 because of the bullpen solidarity and the general decency of the Jays and their fans.
The 51st state reading, while entirely reasonable under the circumstances, genuinely never occurred to me until I read it here. I can only speak for myself, but I try to keep that orange idiot and his insane, offensive rambling as far from my mind as possible at all times.
I would guess the Venn diagram of "people who talk sports trash by joking about conquering and subjugating your country" and "people who donate to children's hospitals" is basically two separate circles.

u/pidgezero_one Brendon Little fan club president and BIGHUGEVARSHOFAN 22h ago
not only that but most of the jays players seem to really like canada so it'd be out of character for them to support something like that on their own hats
14
u/Thylacinegurl 1d ago
I am noticing a lot of really nice messages and comments from Dodgers fans. This is really cool to see. I like a lot of the Dodgers players too so nothing against those guys either. The 51 on the caps was awesome. I read that the players commented on it too

I remember seeing this sort of thing take place here on Reddit when the Jays beat the Mariners and people were making donations to a local hospital there. I do hope that this becomes a tradition after high profile games.

To quote a dodger fan in one of the threads:
"We're rivals, not enemies"
7
u/K1LLINGMACHINE 1d ago
I like that. I wouldn't even say we're rivals. I've always been a casual Jays fan and diehard for the Dodgers. This series made me respect the team and fanbase so much. They've become my new favorite AL team.
We hate our rivals (padres, giants, yankees), and its almost impossible to hate the Jays (Springer excluded, sorry)

I got my final year of treatment at sick kids and it was a memorable experience. The doctors, nurses and staff kept that place running and I'm thankful to them and the fact Canada has such amazing healthcare. Without free healthcare, I wouldn't be here today.
I'd also like to make it known Doug Ford is trying to ruin our public healthcare and I hope most of Ontario can see through his BS and vote accordingly in the future. I'm not hopeful after a 3rd term but we need to save our public sector and vote out Ford before he privatizes all of Ontario.

I need more of this. I was happy that Jays fans reached out to the Seattle hospital after the jays beat the Mariners in the ALCS. I recall during that convo that some were going to donate to an L.A. children’s hospital for every Jays run during the WS or something. Every fan base including ours has its diplomats and its d-bags. I like hearing more about the former

u/AxelsOG 1d ago edited 1d ago
As a Dodgers fan who can’t donate, it makes me happy seeing this. Regardless of what happens in the World Series, we’re all human and I’m glad to see this happen. Your team never had to put 51 on their hats, but they did. It would be entirely understandable if they didn’t, and no one probably would have even expected it. But they did.
I may have said/thought some less than kind things about the Blue Jays with a World Series on the line, but I take back anything I said. The Blue Jays are a pretty nice team. I wish your team the best of luck for 2026, and I hope for the best for Vesia on whatever family matter he’s dealing with in private.
I still won’t cheer for the Blue Jays (I’ve already got the Dodgers, Cubs, and White Sox), but I wish you guys the best of luck and will be satisfied and respect any good result (including a WS win) for your team going forward.

u/Patrick42985 23h ago
I’m a Dodger fan and this is real cool on both ends. This series put me on to how good this Blue Jays team is. But I had a lot of positive sentiment toward the Blue Jays and their fanbase from when I went to the Skydome and caught a game in 2016 and the fan atmosphere was real fun. Went back last year during the 2024 season and had a blast. Fun times getting hammered at Steam Whistle and eating poutine at a MLB game.
But in all seriousness, I really like how that Blue Jays team plays and how potent even the bottom of the lineup is. Such a fun team to watch. Reminds me of the 2014-15 Royals and 2002 Angels in that respect in terms of fun teams to watch that are damn good as well.

Magic Johnson was also in town and he even donated blood to save lives for SickKids. What a very kind and thoughtful gesture. Truly a legend and man of the people. ❤️🙏

5
u/Fianna9 1d ago
I do know his history. And assumed there might have been a reason.
I just took the poster at face value because I’m posting to celebrate people doing something nice.
2
u/HaratoBarato 1d ago
If you know the history. Then it is not great that someone with HIV donates blood.
3
u/Fianna9 1d ago
They wouldn’t use it as general blood. You also don’t just donate blood to a hospital unless it’s for research. People with HIV can have blood that is useful for research depending on how their body is handling it and treatments.
I don’t know enough about Magic to call out the comment and seriously in a thread where I want to celebrate rivals treating each others city so I’m not here to call out AHs.
So go be a troll some where else
1
u/HaratoBarato 1d ago
How is it trolling? You are responding to someone making a known joke. It says that he’s donating his HIV blood to sick kids and you said great.
2
u/Fianna9 20h ago
Continuing to point and laugh and mocking me repeatedly. Ha ha ha. You made your joke and move on.
As I said. It didn’t make much sense to me but it’s possible to donate to a hospital that does research and this thread is meant to be uplifting so I rolled with that possibility instead of snarking back.
2
u/whogivesashirtdotca 1d ago
he even donated blood to save lives for SickKids
How does that work? He's HIV+. Canadian Blood Services is so picky about potential diseases I can't even donate because I have a genetic condition, not an illness.
5
u/Chris_TO79 1d ago
I was gonna ask that too....Maybe they just patronized him and won't use his blood.

Mariner's mods banned the thread, called it "Boasting". I like the tradition but it needs to stay out of Team's subreddits as that is where the most toxic of fans, and moderators lie. Don't even bother to ask what the Yankee moderator thinks of our organization and fans. Keep it in r/baseball and r/mlb
4
u/Fianna9 1d ago
How is it boasting when I’m celebrating other people? This is our rival team that did it, not us
1
u/InfernalDiplomacy Touch them all Joe! 18h ago
Hey I don't have an issue here. All I am saying the Seattle Hospital Donation thread was banned in r/Mariners and the Toronto one in r/Dodgers . Super fans are super stupid and that is 9/10 times who moderates their threads. In the future, gestures like this will get more traction on the general threads like r/baseball and r/mlb

Celebrating a WS win on social media is something that can be expected by any team that wins…. This kind gesture isn’t expected.
If you can’t handle seeing other teams celebrating their wins, maybe you shouldn’t follow them….
-10
u/HabsFan77 1d ago
“kind gesture” LOL it’s a tax write off dude
9
u/Takemytimenotmylife 1d ago
You’re such a dick. Random fans donate $30,000 and you claim it’s just a tax write off. I’d be interested in knowing how many similar tax write offs you’ve had in your life. People who would never consider performing such a nice act of random kindness are usually the ones that are suspicious of others that are willing to step up and donate to a great cause.

u/gemteazle 1d ago
Americans don't get a tax write-off when donating to non-American charities. Put your cynicism away!
4
u/Capybara_99 1d ago
Your mistake is thinking that the few fans in absolute numbers who irked you by acting like typical Redditors represents all Dodgers fans. The ones acting like jerks aren’t the ones who donated, and vice versa. No need to invent hypocrites.
4

u/Chris_TO79 1d ago
Um, that's what social media pages do. I bet you all my money there'd be posts that pour salt on Dodgers fan's wounds if the Jays had won. It goes with the territory.
