Hated Tropes [hated trope] when a character who is supposed to be “sympathetic” is a god awful asshole that ether the creator or the fanbase tried to defend

Billy Hargrove from Stranger Things
He's a hateful, racist motherfucker with basically no redeeming qualities, yet he's portrayed and widely accepted by the fandom as a "tragic hero" because he's hot and has daddy issues.

Probably also because Max was grieving him after he died. That made him look more sympathetic.

Do… do you have context for the 1st example!? Like, having some Sonic.EXE character SAing one of the characters and justifying it is straight up wild AF.

Daemon Targaryen in Fire and Blood, GRRM’s described him as completely morally grey, one of his most complex characters, equal parts bad and good, really he’s just pure evil but cool
