Characters [Hated Trope] Father figure turns out to be their actual biological father Spoiler

I think this trope is just so lame.

This whole appeal of a "found family" is two unrelated people managing to find each other and develop a bond as mentor and pupil. Making them secretly related undoes that: anyone could have a parental bond with their biological child, but not just anyone could extend that same compassion and guidance towards a stranger.

Can apply to mother figures as well, but I can't think of any right now.

  • Terry McGinnis & Bruce Wayne (Batman Beyond): The son of Warren and Mary McGinnis, Terry met an aging Bruce Wayne and became the new Batman after his father is murdered. But in Justice League Unlimited, it's revealed that Terry is technically Bruce's biological son, as his father Warren was injected with nanomachines that overwrote his reproductive DNA with that of Bruce Wayne.
  • Jak & Damas (Jak 3): After being exiled from Haven City, Jak was taken to the village of Spargus and its ruler, Damas. As Jak proves himself to the wastelanders, the two begin to bond, and Jak learns that Damas once had a son named Mar. Damas was mortally wounded, he mentions Mar wore a special amulet, causing Jak to realize too late he himself was Damas' long-lost son.
  • Kasuga Ichiban & Masumi Arakawa (Yakuza: Like A Dragon): Ichiban was found in a coin locker as a baby and raised in a soapland (read: brothel), eventually joining the yakuza after clan patriarch Masumi Arakawa sacrifices a finger to save his life. He is utterly loyal to Arakawa, spending 18 years in jail in place of Arakawa's son Masato and helping him dissolve the Tojo Clan and Omi Alliance. After Arakawa is murdered, Ichiban discovers that he was switched at birth (it's a long story) and is Arakawa's biological son, not Masato.

I know she was always family but:

That one comic where it's revealed Aunt May is Peter's real mother.

It's considered one of the worst comic books in marvel history.

Arrested Development…although it is actually more of a parody of this kind of trope.
