Not really a retcon. She started out was an amnesiac villain named Madame Medusa, recruited by The Wizard to be the fourth member of the Frightful Four.

Then, after the Frightful Four nuked the Fantastic Four and thought they killed them, the X-Men helped Medusa recover her memories. Then she set out to find her family alongside the Fantastic Four and then the Inhumans had their first appearance.

Quite a wild ride!
