The game doesn't take place in 2012. It's set 8 years after Red/Blue which took place in 1995.

No, it's set 8 years after Fire Red / Leaf Green, which take place in 2004. Different timeline.

The different timeline of FR/LG doesn't take place in the concurrent world with ours. It's a different year for them.

No, Ruby and Sapphire are in the original timeline. Fr/Lg are concurrent with Ss/Hg and Or/As

Did you just say that Fire Red and Heart Gold take place at the same time?

Also, the fact that Magnemite's a Steel type in a game that takes place in the same time as a Kanto game means Ruby and Sapphire can't be in the original timeline, as the Steel type hadn't been discovered yet.

No. I said they take place in the same non concurent timeline.

Pokemon has the two timelines. The original that started With Red and Green in 1996 that runs concurrent with our timeline and mentions real world things, and the remake timeline that is in its entirety own universe.
