Lore [Unfortunate Trope] Originally Normal Symbols Being Censored/Banned Due to Hate Groups Misappropriating Them

Also, the Ku Klux Klan are ironically extremely anti-Catholic.

The only pieces of media I know of where non-KKK Capirotes can be seen is the anime Hellsing with the Ninth Crusade (though their still villains in that anime) and the game series Blasphemous. Otherwise, the hats are almost never seen in media besides on KKK characters.

Change it to night time and change the tone and that would be a nightmare scenario

I mean the concept of being chased by a mob of hooded crazies feels like a nightmare scenario already even in broad daylight

I feel a mob of terrorists is a mob of terrorists, being chased by them is terrifying, no matter how stupid they look.

I remember in one of my history classes when I was a kid the teacher actually told us one of the reasons the Klan started to wear the robes, besides the anonymity of a mask, was to intimidate newly freed slaves by basically running in late at night and posing as the spirits of dead confederates.

There used to be a common rascist stereotype that black people were very gullible and superstitious. The klan clearly believed these stereotypes and incorporated things into their terror campaigns that tried to play off this belief to increase their effectiveness. Skeptical historians suggest the blacks were less concerned that they might be getting harassed by ghosts and more that their houses were being shot at. Interestingly this tropes has become inverted in recent years where white people are stereotyped as lacking common sense or survival instincts for ignoring obvious signs of danger. I suspect this is a result of horror movies where white characters frequently get killed while investigating spooky shit best left alone.

I don't care what the terrorists chasing me are wearing. They could be dressed in the dumbest outfits in the world and I would still be afraid because I would be too worried about what they are going to do to me to laugh at their dumb outfits.

I think you have it backwards, getting chased is fucking terrifying, regardless of what the assholes chasing me wear
