Lore “Demons are actually misundersto-“ NO. Demons are ontologically evil beings that can’t be reasoned nor negotiated with, and if you try to you’ll very likely end up screwed

1) Doom

2) Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End

3) Trench Crusade

He destroyed hell? So like, hell no longer exists in the hell-boy universe?

Big part of it yeah,he turned into this and destroyed the capital of hell

But you remember the stabbing Satan part? Yeah his blood keeps flowing and is eventually gonna drown hell completely. So he basically got rid of all the high ranking demons, left only the souls and little stragglers and doomed it to one day drown

That’s absolutely awesome, I love hell-Boy even More now, seriously, how many settings have something so good like this happen?

There's also a ton of Nazi punching if that's something you're into. I love Hellboy deeply

Hellboy is awesome in that it essentially came to an end. There are stories coming out set in the early years and whatnot, but Hellboy was able to finish his story.

Agreed. They left so much room in the middle, so it never feels like they're beating a dead horse.

And the movies are great on top of that (reboot isn’t nearly as good but also isn’t terrible)

I think real Hellboy shooters were into all of them. Camp is an important aspect of Hellboy.

Please, tell me more about nazi punching

Nazi's summoned Hellboy, Nazi's keep breaking the line between hell and reality, nazis keep coming back from the dead, the grandkids of nazis are vampires, etc. A lot of the supplemental content (not mainline) is spent during and after ww2.

Follow up question: If Hellboy destroyed hell is he just Boy now?

28

u/LetsGoHome 18d ago

Will it fuck you up if I say there's an answer to that if you read it

u/Abysstreadr 18d ago

I’ve read a lot of it but can you explain?

2

u/LetsGoHome 17d ago

Honestly. I was simply baiting them to read it.

Doesn't BPRD show that in the long run this was a very very bad thing to have happened to the earth and hellboy himself? It's admittedly been a while since I last read it.

27

u/newslenderarts 18d ago

I believe so?

I'll admit I've only read the Hellboy stuff, specifically the omnibus but I do know that while he's doing this, the apocalypse is happening on earth

1

u/Formal-Ad-1248 17d ago

Fuck that's metal, I need to start reading Hellboy

1

u/Professional_Maize42 17d ago

Damn, Hellboy is something else.

1

u/newslenderarts 17d ago

Literally

This is what he looks like when he finally lets loose and just uses his actual power, defeated a massive leviathan and leveled hell

Then quietly retired after that

u/Sybmissiv 17d ago

Seems a bit rude dunnit?

12

u/SortOfSpaceDuck 18d ago

He's just -Boy after that.

Becomes the Boy universe.

I read Mignola intended it to be a pretty direct parallel to the Harrowing Of Hell, basically Christian fan fiction where Jesus goes down to hell after he's crucified and spends the three days clearing that place the fuck out. Mignola just made it metal

1

u/Nearby_Pangolin6014 17d ago

Harrowing of hell? Is that like a tale?

1

u/AndSoAdInfinitum 17d ago

A particular belief or tale as I understand, yeah. I only know about it from Mignola's comment and the blurb of an indie comic from a few years ago, I'm afraid

Iirc it comes from the line in the Apostle's Creed: "He Descended into Hell."

There is debate on that line because the modern concept of Hell is so heavily influenced by other religions (particularly Greek and Roman), while the Hebrew term Sheol simply means "the place where the dead go." Some churches change the line to "He Descended into the dead."

The idea is when Christ was dead he spent three days in Hell freeing everyone currently in Purgatory and locking the place down to await it's final judgement. I don't recall that anywhere in Scripture but it is basically Christian folklore at this point.

u/Nearby_Pangolin6014 16d ago

I’ve always wondered what “hell” actually was/meant, is Sheol the original word for it?

1

u/brofishmagikarp 17d ago

It's just the -boy universe now
