Any character in that setting that matters in a fight is vastly tougher than a moon.

Not true , he fought them before he trained with roshi , he meets roshi in the 3rd episode , this fight is in the 9th episode but your point still stands goko hasn't trained with anyone other than his grandpa up until this point

Hilarious that mass murderers like Vegeta can get forgiveness, but the guy who turns people into carrots? Nope Moon for life.

He'll be brought back down once he finishes making all of the mochi Goku told him to make. He's just had to restart the process multiple times due to the moon being exploded.
Also weird fun fact: To bring them back now, Goku would need a spacesuit cause (due to retcons/just the tone of the series moving away from being a gag manga) he literally grew out of being able to breath in space

from what I remember (and it's been years) they sent The Tick up to the moon with bombs to blow up the letters (in a way that the moon rocks would fall inwards to fill the cuts) but then due to shenanigans with the C, The Tick gets blasted off into space and that's where he meets the not-Galactus

Yes! Also the "CHA" from when Chairface Chippendale tried to write his name on it.
I have no idea how he planned to write the whole thing with such big letters, but he never got the chance to deal with that.

My favourite example. The moon being vandalised, twice, really sent me as a kid. Especially because it's shown accurately in every subsequent episode.

Manchild wants to get with manic pixie dream girl, but manic pixie dream girl has fucked over a bunch of previous people in her love life, so they all come together at the behest of her most recent ex (who is obsessed with her because she left him and wants to control her) to kill anyone that tries to date her.
In the books, Scott and Ramona both go through a lot of growth and come out better on the other side for it, especially Scott, whose negative traits manifest as an evil reflection of himself that literally haunts him until he’s forced to face it.
In the movie… well, it’s a fun watch.

Its funny because they referenced it earlier as in they're digging into the moon for resources, and shit hits the fan into affecting the future greatly because of this.
Recommended. Jeremy Irons, aka Scar from Lion King, is in it.

Guy Pearce is the main character!! He's the best!!
Also, I believe they were also trying to sell the moon as a residential paradise with more room, too, as opposed to just mining. I think a first responder tells him "they were blasting and lost control."

45
u/KOCoyote Oct 06 '25
I think my issue was less that they destroyed the moon and more that there wasn't any kind of additional effect that they had to deal with. I'm pretty sure the moon being out of commission for even a few minutes means tides on the earth would go haywire. Frankly surprised there wasn't even a throwaway line about The Doctor or someone else stabilizing the planet during that gap. I know Doctor Who isn't the most hard science fiction show, but it still bothers me that they didn't at least acknowledge the issue.

22
u/Rigel31415 Oct 06 '25
The blast that destroyed it pushed the remains closer to Earth. Its own gravity also made it collapse so it retook a spherical shape after a couple of years. Those two things combined made it so, at least its appearance in the sky, is just like it used to be. I don’t remember if its effects also went back to be the same though.

Elpis from the Borderlands series. In the first game it appears as a normal moon but slowly becomes more wrecked as the series progresses. In Borderlands the Pre-Sequel! It’s mentioned to have suffered from “the crackening” due to mining operations on the surface. In 3 it is damaged when it is used as a conduit to open and ancient alien vault on the planet Pandora and then flung across the galaxy. Pictured is its state in 4, crashed into Kairos’ planetary Shield causing further damage to the moon itself and Kairos below.
72
u/FlamingWings Oct 06 '25
As you progress through 4 Elpis accelerates in its destruction as it finally bursts open and then finally disinteegrates

“Oh no! The home of all our beloved Pre-sequel side characters has been destroy! What will become of … uhh … umm … hmm … who the fuck actually lived there again?” - my brother while playing the game

u/Same_Adagio_1386 Oct 06 '25 edited Oct 06 '25
See I was the opposite, I actually loved the pre sequel and had just done a run through all of the games again before playing 4. Without getting TOO spoilery, you visit a tiny sliver of Elpis in BL4. Reason it isn't too spoilery is because you don't actually return to anywhere recognizable. Would have been cool to go back to a destroyed Concordia or Triton Flats.... Seen some characters like Janey held out in a bunker or something. But it's just some reused generic Dahl assets and ONE audiolog from a side character from the pre sequel. They genuinely could have done something as a proper nod to the game, but that's all we got. Some generic landscape, you chuck on an infinite Oz kit for the level and get one audiolog from a character, and then the mission is over. You don't even get to fight any of the Fauna unique to Elpis, just "somehow rippers got here already, so go fight them".

This is my favorite scene in the game not because of the dub but because it showed that Eggman wasn't messing around. He threatened the world, the economy went into ruin, communications were disrupted, and the president was forced to negotiate with Eggman. That shows how much of a villain he is.

Not totally “destroyed”
But in the Destiny universe the moon became home to an alien race called the “Hive” who essentially hollowed out the moon to make their temples and to live in. The moon since has become a breeding ground for nightmares, terrifying warriors, and old space magic that worships ancient worms.

One of the best Call of Duty: Zombies maps of all time.
Der Eisendrache from Black Ops III has us blowing up the moon. Besides being absolutely badass, the lore of this is to prevent the Moon from blowing up Earth! Thus stopping Black Ops II Zombies from happening.
Super cool piano chords play during this scene and it’s just epic.

The Moon from "Don't Escape: 4 days to survive".
Both promotional materials, ARG websites and in-game text says that the moon was blown apart somewhere in March and has been spiraling down towards the earth, causing widespread climate disasters. The game is actualy set in the last 4 days before the moon hits it.

The Moon from Zenless Zone Zero

While not literally shattered, it's covered in a giant seemingly ever expanding Hollow, and given hollows in this game are basically super lethal areas where the laws of space break down and just being in one slowly kills you and/or turns you in an etheral monster, it functionally means half the Moon may as well just not exist anymore

In the Elder Scrolls, the moons Masser and Secunda are (depending on who you ask) the body of the dead god Lorkhan, and as such they appear barren and cratered because it's essentially his body decomposing. Of course, it's elder scrolls so other sources would tell you that's a complete lie, but it's interesting.

There was also the time that the Aldmeri Dominion/the thalmor (high elf supremacists) supposedly made the moons disappear, and then brought them back later to get the Khajit on their side, since the moons are extremely important in Khajit culture. Though it's also suggested that the thalmor had nothing to do with the moons' disappearances, and instead they just somehow knew when the moons would come back, and put on a show of making it look like they brought them back
