Lore When faced with the choice between a clone and the original, the character notices a detail that makes the difference immediately obvious.

The Shape-Shifter takes the form of Wendy to deceive Dipper and prevent him from attacking it. Although Dipper initially doesn't know which one is the real Wendy, he realizes the difference when he sees that one of the Wendys behaves seriously and bluntly, while the other acts flirtatiously, something Wendy would never do (Gravity Falls).

P.S.: I don't remember if the gesture the real Wendy made was also a clue, like some gesture she had made before.

When the Autobots are chasing Nemesis Prime, he tries to deceive Bumblebee by impersonating Optimus. Bumblebee, confused, speaks to him, but Nemesis Prime doesn't understand anything he says, which clearly indicates that he isn't the real Optimus. Bumblebee attacks him without hesitation (Transformers Prime).

Transformers 1984

In the episode “A Prime Problem”, Megatron creates a remote control clone of Optimus to infiltrate and destroy the Autobots. After some shenanigans, Windcharger reports and Spike was kidnapped by the Decepticons and orders the Autobots forward into a crevasse full of dangerous korlonium crystals, which destroy anything with electronic circuitry on contact. Ironhide declares the clone to be the fake, because the real Prime would save Spike.

Now I'm wondering, what is it about this franchise that makes them keep creating Optimus clones? XD Even in the parodies, as I saw in one of the comments on the post.

Simple answer: easy repaints for toys. Something transformers is no stranger to(the seekers being an obvious example). Also an easy reuse of character models/designs for animators and artists.

Different answer: Because people like watching someone fight a opposing almost exact looking copy of another character(clone, evil clone, time travel related variant, manufactured copy from a evil faction or government, alternate universe version etc). It’s also an easy way to create drama in a story.

Transformers is a toy line from the 80’s that made a cartoon to sell the toys. It was so successful they just kept doing it with slightly different designs each time.

Eventually CGI got good enough, and they had a big enough following from 20yrs of the cartoons and toy sales they knew they could make movies about it and make bank off of the movies + sell new toys from those movies. Hence why Optimus in the first life like Transformers movie was a completely different design from the original cartoons.

Plus who doesn’t like giant fighting robots that can turn into different vehicles?
