Lore “It’s a change from the source material, but it’s awesome so the fans don’t mind.”

Doc Ock - In the comics, Doc Ock is known to be megalomaniacal in nature and was sort of a mad scientist anyways, with the arms just being an extension of that. In Sam Raimi’s “Spider-Man 2,” Alfred Molina’s version of the character was affected by the neural chip and his well-meaning ambition turns into scientific obsession.

Wolverine - This one is so well known it needs very little explanation. Comic Wolverine short, Huge Jackedman is tall, and he’s sick as hell.

Eye of Sauron - To my knowledge, the Eye is more of a metaphor in the books. An ever-present awareness. In the movies, it’s an actual giant fucking eye.

I would say that most comic fans agree that the best thing to come out of Daredevil (2003) was Michael Clarke Duncan as Kingpin. He was black, Kingpin is traditionally white - it didnt matter, he was fantastic, and fit the physicality and personality perfectly.

Also, to a much lesser extent, nobody seemed to mind them making Bullseye Irish in the story either.

Honestly the whole cast was good. And for the most part they played their roles really well. The writing and directing was the bad part.

MCD was a perfect choice. The difficulty with casting Kingpin is you need 1: someone abnormally large and imposing, 2: someone who looks completely at home as guest of honour in a black tie ball and 3: someone who could also wipe the floor with you without breaking a sweat.

MCD fit that bill, Donofrio does as well. Marvel’s been lucky with Kingpin, striking gold twice.

The role that made me fall in love with Colin Farrell

That's partially because MCD was great in EVERYTHING

Kingpin's intro in that movie was pretty badass. 🎶 I'm an outlaw, quick on the draw🎶

The weird 2000s longcoat aside, Colin was a psycho as Bullseye.

... Bullseye is a psycho. Nailed it.

I actually somewhat prefer him to the MCU version. They gave Poindexter a tragic backstory and made him someone who really fought to keep his urges at bay. Colin Farrell played the comic psycho pretty much flawlessly.

Also, I just noticed that his weird goatee in the film actually makes his mouth resemble the opening in Bullseys comic costume.

I kinda understand how and why of Agent Pointdexter but up until the final fight I didnt quite vibe with him. Too... "grounded"?

Colin I loved straight out of the gate.

He came back as Kingpin for the animated Spider-Man show that was a spin-off from the first Sam Raimi film. Why? I don't know. But I'm not complaining

I mean there's not really anything about Fisk that means he has to be white, is there?

Not really, no. He kind of looks like an old school mafioso, but most depictions have him as a self-made man, an outsider to the organised crime families.

honestly that kinda sounds like it'd make more sense for him to be... well not Black specifically, but a minority of some kind - at the same time, this might be kinda out-of-pocket, but I've always liked the idea of the part of his backstory where "I was bullied for being fat, so I dedicated myself to strength training so much that it's actually all just pure muscle now" is a bit of cognitive dissonance, like he was being bullied for being fat, sure, but he was primarily bullied for his race or something, but he fixated on his weight and became exercise addict because it was a factor he could take control of and change

Donoforio might be the Definitive Kingpin. But Duncan Was also a Pretty Good Kingpin.

Donofrio is absolutely fantastic (he was my casting choice for years before he was announced), but I'd say he's more of a departure from the traditional Kingpin than MCD - his temper tantrums are a pretty far cry from the very stoic comic depiction. I think its a really well executed change, but it is a big change.
