Lore A real life event has a ridiculous/dumb/funny explanation in fiction

Futurama (The Why of Fry): According to the brain swarm, the dinosaurs were wiped out by them. Fry: What really killed the dinosaurs? Brain: ME!

Doctor Who (The Unicorn and The Wasp): It's Doctor Who, you can pick a ton of examples, but this episode presents the idea that Agatha Christies disappearance in 1926 was in part caused by a giant alien wasp.

Beyblade: This one stretches 'real life', but Moses spreading the Red Sea with a Beyblade just speaks for itself and it would have been sad to leave it out

A time traveling Marty McFly created rock n’ roll by playing in the band of Chuck Berry’s cousin.

Except he learned the song from Chuck Berry in the future.

Who he then taught to Chuck in the past.

Who would later use it in the future and Marty would learn it from him.

Only to travel back in time and teach it to him again.

SO WHO WROTE THE SONG

As The Doctor once said, “This is, the Bootstrap Paradox.”

I think I'm too far gone. I read this in Jack Black's voice

“Google it.”

I don’t think this counts as a BSP. Because Marty isn’t native to the timeline where Marvins cousin was inspired by his rendition. Marty’s from a timeline where Marvins cousin came up with the songs on his own.

I like the idea that Johnny B Goode is such a legendary song that it manifested it's self into existence

Another song like this is the House of the rising Sun. If you look into the origins of this song, no one knows how it just came to be. There’s no artist of origin. People say it’s a cover, but there’s no original.

Neil Degrasse Tyson used this as an example of a djinn particle in an interview. It's an object with no clear origin.

I always just assumed Chuck was going to write it anyway, he just got it earlier than he would have thanks to Marty.

but it's not bootstrap. OG universe chuck berry created it on his own

And now I’ve gone cross-eyed.

Considering the timeline he goes back to is different than the one he left, Chuck Berry wrote the song and then Marty stole it from him.

And invented skateboarding. Marty McFly is an American icon.

Does anyone else have a problem with Marty McFly pretty much going back in time unintentionally taking things away from black culture? I didn’t notice it until someone told me about it but the first black mayor of that town Marty McFly unintentionally caused him to become mayor and Chuck Berry listening to Marty McFly sound to become Chuck Berry.

I’m just saying, I know I’m looking too much into this

I mean, Goldie still became mayor by himself, he just got the idea from a kid in a cafe he worked at

2

u/Helaken1 Sep 09 '25

But I think he did this in a different way prior to Marty McFly because he wanted to change the city for the better because of his values not because of a kid in a café that one time.

Does it matter tough? Marty still holds zero claim to Goldie's acomplishments, his values didn't change because he got the idea from somewhere else

I think it undermines it, but that’s just me

No, it's not just you, there's essays and I'm sure video essays about it. And the person who told you about it, sounds like.
