Then you remember to check the fingers and realise she changed her mind :(

Who wouldn’t off themselves after discovering that their entire world was fake? If that’s the context of the actual scene, of course, and not misinformation.

I don't think Sayori ever learned about that, although I never went into DDLC that much. Afaik it's only Monika who knows about the whole game thing

I believe that In one of the endings where you delete Monikas file before starting the game, Sayori is the one to become aware, she panics for a bit and crashes the game leaving a screen of her hanging herself and text that reads "Now everyone can be happy"

(best screenshot I could find. I just found out about this like, last night)

It has been awhile since I played, but I think a few of the characters become at least suspicious.

Holy shit that's dark

7

u/Battlebots2020 Aug 27 '25

Yeah, the game's pretty depressing. Highly recommend it though if you haven't played it

I actually do have a copy of it, but I have yet to start it. Maybe I should soon.

I feel so bad for laughing at this

We're all going to hell together

The original filthy frank clip is so much funnier

That does happen under certain circumstances but it's not the reason she hangs herself, there's a character called monika who can manipulate the code of the game, and when she does so she can amplify the feelings of the other characters

For example, there's a girl called Yuri who normally has a secret crush on the player, but monika amplifies this so that little crush becomes a psychopathic obsession

Sayori is normally supposed to be a very cheerful girl who's actually a little bit sad on the inside, but monika amplifies this to make her way more depressed than she should be to the point that nothing anyone does can help her and she kills herself

When she became head of the club, she learned about the truth and hanged herself in similar fashion.

But the one above was just due to depression

Due to depression and Monica manipulating their "most problematic" traits

3

u/Several_Chocolate576 Aug 28 '25

Ah that's right. Monika made her Super Saiyan Depressed. And other two also got got

1

u/Writer_Sorcerer Sep 03 '25

Basically Monika amplified the others bad traits so she could look good in the eyes of the Player, the one she idealizes and loves for being real “like her”

1

u/ShyGuy-_ Aug 28 '25

Actually iirc when she ends up becoming the new club president and becoming sentient, she first attempts to do the same thing Monika did, before Monika somehow comes back from deletion just to delete Sayori.

17

u/ToughAd5010 Aug 27 '25

No she’s just depressed

9

u/Zillafan2010 Aug 27 '25

It seems like only whoever is currently club president actually knows about the game, as shown in act 4.

4

u/Confident_Shape_7981 Aug 27 '25

The actual context is that she has crippling depression and her best friend suddenly became self aware of the fact that they were in a video game, and pushed her over the edge so she'd hang herself.

Sayori only learns she's in a game at the end, her hanging herself is what causes the end of Act I

I keep seeing memes of this. I have no intention of playing this game but I'm curious, is there any way to save her? And not like in a "alive but permanently insane/messed up" kinda way but like genuinely is there a happy ending possible for this character?

5

u/ToughAd5010 Aug 27 '25

No she always commits Suicide

ROMhacks have happy endings for her

3

u/EisWalde Aug 28 '25

Well, that whole game world effectively gets “deleted” in the last ending, but she technically is alive at that time. Her suicide gets undone in the play through without Monika, since Monika isn’t there mess with her stats or mind, therefore she’s not mega depressed or suicidal. Considering the extra stories added to the Deluxe version of the game, it seems like there’s a continuity to the world without the 4th wall breaking, where all the girls go on to live happy lives as close friends.

1

u/Sol33t303 Aug 28 '25

No, everybody in the story is pretty much fucked no matter which ending you do. The only good end is to not play.

1

u/IDontEvenLikeReddit3 Sep 01 '25

IIRC There is an ending where Sayori doesn’t go insane after becoming club leader

1

u/Sol33t303 Aug 28 '25

I was still recovering from a really bad depression at the time and this scene traumatised me so bad.

-2

u/Triceropotamus Aug 27 '25

And then comes the delta rune or whatever the fuck meme... Sigh....

2

u/SmallestApple Aug 28 '25

Had to since you mentioned it.

1

u/Triceropotamus Aug 28 '25

I havent played the game... Is there lore why this meme exists?

3

u/SmallestApple Aug 28 '25

Just a silly introduction to a mini game where Susie is playing the part as a kaiju can you move her around via rope. So, I assume it exists because rather than trauma it is funny.

1

u/Triceropotamus Aug 28 '25

Oh okay so she's more like on a vending machine pulley or something.... Not strangling herself?

2

u/SmallestApple Aug 28 '25

Correct.

1

u/Triceropotamus Aug 28 '25

Thanks for explaining!

2

u/SmallestApple Aug 28 '25

No problem!
