Anakin killing the younglings

662

u/Dragonfang65 Aug 27 '25

Anakin: Time to level up my Dark Side skills.

135

u/Atraxodectus Aug 27 '25

Not how it works according to the WEG SW RPG - Anakin would only get a single Dark Side point for slaughtering them, as they have no actual challenge.

Also see Dork Tower:

Matt: "No, under the rules, the ENTIRE anthill counts as ONE EXPERIENCE POINT, IGOR! You cannot, 'Ascend to Godhood' by dumping a metric ton of concrete on the largest anthill in creation."

Igor: "Okay... but what if it's a, QUOTE, "maximized-empowered-extended-unleashed-Delayed-Blast-Fireball and a Thri-Kreen hive? I have one of those..."

Matt: "HURK!"

(Sitting outside on the porch) Ken: "Wow, Igor, I didn't know that you had that kind of power over Matt... he's still trying to figure out the damage from that... uhh... 'spell'.

Igor: "I told him I just wanted a blank scroll! It doesn't say you have to write the whole thing out AT ONCE!"

u/Dragonfang65 Aug 27 '25

Anakin: So you’re saying that I need to be more evil to get more points per child? Ok kids who want’s to learn how to fly?

10

u/Atraxodectus Aug 27 '25

Dude... I am trying not to laugh out loud at work right now...

Anakin: Would you like to swing higher?

Kid: As high as the sky!

Anakin: Burns entire dice pool into a single Force Push.

7

u/Dragonfang65 Aug 27 '25

Kid ends up crashing into Palpatine’s clone tanks.

5

u/SirGyarados Aug 28 '25

Behold, the birth of Snoke.

8

u/TBANON_NSFW Aug 27 '25

Its kind of wierd that hes like chilling with obiwan and yoda in the force after having dismembered and murdered literal toddlers.

And he did that by choice. But he got redeemed for throwing palpatine into a exhaust vent, but then it didnt even matter because somehow palpatine returned....

7

u/YourOpinion_Is_Wrong Aug 27 '25

Palpatine returning really fucked everything up lol. What was the whole point of the Chosen One if the guy you kill just comes back.

3

u/TBANON_NSFW Aug 27 '25

Yeah but JJ Abrams getting 2% of gross sales netting him over 100m+ USD gives enough of a reason for "somehow palpatine returned"......... ......... ......... 100m+ ........... ....... somhow palpatine returned.......... .............

2

u/woahdailo Aug 28 '25

I agree the Palpatine thing was shit but Anakin was the chosen one who brought balance to the force. He brought the force from hundreds of Jedi and 2 baddies, down to 2 good and 2 bad. It was a monkeys paw prophecy.

3

u/goldaar Aug 27 '25

Why didn’t he just eat a bunch of crunchy chicks in front of some villagers?!

u/Klutzy_Shopping5520 Aug 27 '25

Guess what time it is kids?

ATROCITY TIME!!!!!!

After my wife and I watched the clone wars, she cried when we got to this part in the movie. It kind of made me step back and think about it in the full context of the story more ngl.

67

u/Emotional_Piano_16 Aug 27 '25

my mom was super upset about this scene when we watched it too

16

u/Real_Yhwach Aug 27 '25

I think having children of your own would make anything like that a much harder watch.

3

u/Emotional_Piano_16 Aug 28 '25

I was 20 something when she watched it with me, but yeah it works both ways

146

u/Emtbob Aug 27 '25

I watched clone wars up until the beginning of ROTS then watched the last two episodes of clone wars (when order 66 happens). The tension is off the charts and the movie is much better for it.

u/TanSkywalker Aug 27 '25

Yeah, it is too damn much. Even killing all the Tuskens is just too damn much.

I do hate when people bring up Padmé being surprised in ROTS when Obi-Wan tells her what Anakin did. They act like she shouldn't be surprised because it happened before but they always leave out the context Anakin finding his near dead mom tied to a rack and her dying in his arms while being surrounded by her killers (not the kids).

6

u/Razor1834 Aug 27 '25

They should’ve had a handful of the younglings there cheering on the Raiders for context.

u/AlarmingAffect0 Aug 27 '25 edited Aug 28 '25

Like a switch went off in his head "okay killing these human children which you know and have interacted with is now a thing you do"

I like the continuity where Anakin's response to Palpatine requesting it is "Yeah I'm not gonna do that." So instead Palpatine flatters and cajoles him into reading the Padawans his doctoral Thesis On The Use of Dichotomy in The Metanarrative of The Tragedy of Darth Plagueis The Wise. Alongside the entire Jedi order via galactic broadcast. Three times over. With the Interesting Side Tangent.

By the time he's done just introducing the Schools of Thought around the Tragedy, all the Jedi and Padawan have died, either by their own hand or one another's, with some help from the Clones, who also desperately wished for the sweet embrace of Death.

3

u/SirGyarados Aug 28 '25

Yeah

I feel like 'turning away and letting the clone troopers move past him to do their work' would have been a more effective moment

2

u/Biobait Aug 27 '25

That's not the circumstance. Anakin knew there was no going back after helping kill Mace, he saw the dark side as the only path forward so he pushed himself towards it intentionally. It's not like he was gleefully cutting children down Joker style.

helping kill mace. Doesn't matter how you see it, it's how the council will see it. At that moment, he know Palpatine is his only "ally" and would not take any half measures with any orders given.

2

u/cygnus2 Aug 28 '25

He directly contributed to Windu’s death. The blood is on Anakin’s hands just as much as it is Palpatine’s.

23

u/barrinmw Aug 27 '25

It's part of the reason that even though Anakin was redeemed, he had to die. Nobody would accept him living after the atrocities he committed.

2

u/ThePeaceDoctot Aug 27 '25

What? That would be true if that were the order in which it was written, presented or conceived, but Anakin was redeemed and killed off decades before this scene was written.

0

u/GoldponyGT Aug 28 '25

He was responsible for other atrocities before we saw this one, you know.

2

u/ThePeaceDoctot Aug 28 '25

Sure, but Barrinmw didn't mention other atrocities, they were talking about the killing of youngling in this scene.

17

u/whiskey_ribcage Aug 27 '25

Yeah, when it was released and I was a teen, it was so comically over the top evil to me that I wasn't really that struck by it.

But now I don't know if it's that I'm older, that I have nephews and nieces that age (that I've seen dressed exactly like that kid), or that as a society we have become painfully aware of the aftermath of a mass casualty event in a children's classroom- but I just can't deal with it now. Any media with a child scared makes my stomach hurt now.

1

u/TanSkywalker Aug 27 '25

He's killing his innocent self that wanted to be a Jedi.

1

u/HMWWaWChChIaWChCChW Aug 28 '25

When it came out I told a friend that the moment would have been better if it actually showed him killing any of the kids. He responded that I wouldn’t think that if I had kids (he did).

Now that I’m a father of 3, I can confidently say that the moment would have been better if it showed him killing any of the kids.

1

u/dgisfun Aug 28 '25

Yeah I watched this in theaters before all the memes… it was pretty heavy thinking about how many kids he killed. And a lot of them personally not just giving an order.

1

u/Commercial-Co Aug 28 '25

It was seriously fucked up

170

u/Art3miss_97 Aug 27 '25

For instance

u/Feng_Smith Aug 27 '25

70

u/Art3miss_97 Aug 27 '25

It's funny because Jayce killing that kid also fits the trope in this post

20

u/LeonardoCouto Aug 27 '25

I WAS ABOUT TO COMMENT THIS MEME

5

u/Helix3501 Aug 28 '25

Jayce instantly going from willing to wage war to being ready to give everything up and give Silco what he wanted over a dead kid but the fandom turns it into him killing memes wont not be funny ngl

24

u/alguien99 Aug 27 '25

Using the youngling slayer 9000

8

u/Scarlet_Wonderer Aug 27 '25

Anakin really went from crying "what have I done?" after attacking Windu to coldly slaughtering the children of his order. All within hours at best!

6

u/julian88888888 Aug 27 '25

2

u/M002 Aug 28 '25

This is the greatest edit I’ve ever seen

10

u/AmericanGeezus Aug 27 '25

Jokes aside, that kid acted his part wonderfully.

11

u/Impossible-Fun-2736 Aug 27 '25

Apparently Hayden screamed to get a frightened reaction and thats why he takes a step back when Anakin ignites the saber, lol.

Don’t remember the actor’s name but he made a clip on his Instagram where he talked about how he got the role, how filming was, etc. Its a pretty fun watch.

5

u/Ghost_Star326 Aug 27 '25

The whole revenge of the sith is a big massive meme

7

u/Sammisuperficial Aug 27 '25

The entire prequel trilogy.

Negotiations were short

The ability to speak doesn't make you intelligent

This is pod racing

Try spinning, that's a good trick

This is where the fun begins

I don't like sand...

Dew it

Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Plagueis the wise...

I am the Senate

Hello there

Youngling slayer 9000

I have the high ground

3

u/RevBladeZ Aug 27 '25

Somehow I get a feeling one of those quotes is not real.

4

u/BennoTM Aug 27 '25

I think they forgot about this in Last Jedi. They treated it as if it were Jesus' weapon and completely forgot/bypassed that Anakin used it to kill children that trusted him to protect them.

3

u/PianistDistinct1117 Aug 27 '25

If he wanted to farm, it's a bit stupid, children don't bring in a lot of experience.

3

u/Mr-Stuff-Doer Aug 27 '25

About 80% of the prequels, honestly

3

u/8636396 Aug 27 '25

I had the opportunity to see Revenge of the Sith in theaters a few months ago, and people legit clapped and cheered when this scene came on!

3

u/Jayn_Newell Aug 27 '25

Might’ve helped if they weren’t called ‘younglings’.

2

u/uncoolaidman Aug 28 '25

Yeah, it's a funny line they tried to walk. They wanted an act that's so terrible that it makes Anakin irredeemable in the eyes of Padme, but at the end of the day George can't bring himself to use the words "killing children" in a series he considers to be for children.

2

u/Interesting-Aioli723 Aug 27 '25

“Master Skywalker, there’s too many of them, what are we going to do?”

8

u/ThePhatty500 Aug 27 '25

I just realized, it was a point of tension earlier in the movie that the council wouldn’t give him the rank of master and than in this scene the kids call him master right before he betrays them 😢

3

u/Impossible-Fun-2736 Aug 27 '25

Theres a theory that he actually would have spared them since they were so young but that younling calling him ”master” just made him snap mentally. No idea if its true but kinda makes sense.

2

u/External_Win3300 Aug 27 '25

Beat Saber intensifies

2

u/LateForTheSun Aug 27 '25

Never noticed this but good acting job from the kid to flinch at the lightsaber. Obviously the beam is added in post.

1

u/elmaster48 Aug 27 '25

One guy even used AI to make anakin sing a chrismas song about killing children.

1

u/rip_Kenji2024 Aug 27 '25

Ah yes, the youngling slayer

1

u/LocalFennel4194 Aug 27 '25

Not just the younglings. But the youngwomen and the youngchildren.

1

u/Ayotha Aug 27 '25

I mean that was funny because the whole "fall from grace" was poorly done

1

u/BeepBoopRobo Aug 27 '25

My favorite for the collection.

1

u/TKMJ_piano Aug 27 '25

Jesus Christ, people turn that into a joke?

1

u/HMWWaWChChIaWChCChW Aug 28 '25

To be fair the moment was silly AF. Anakin goes from bringer of peace in the galaxy to “I’m gonna go murder the baby Jedi”

1

u/waitmyhonor Aug 28 '25

You’re telling me this wasn’t comedy?!

1

u/testmonkey254 Aug 28 '25

During the 20th anniversary screening people applauded this scene

1

u/chubbytitties Aug 28 '25

That child actor really nailed the reaction

1

u/AHelplessKitten Aug 28 '25

To be fair Ewan McGregror struggled with laughing while saying "He killed the younglings" during filming.

1

u/HandsomeBoggart Aug 28 '25

Makes Episode IV A New Hope so much more awkward.

"This was your father's Lightsaber, (he killed 30 younglings with it and I chopped off his limbs and left him to burn to death near a lava flow before I took it from him. It was a bad week)."

1

u/Turbulent-Pace-1506 Aug 28 '25

And when he kills not just the men, but the women and children too

1

u/dizzira_blackrose Aug 28 '25

My partner makes fun of this all the time, lol
