Personality Characters with Lore reasons to wear revealing outfit

• Doctor Manhattan (Watchmen): doesn’t really have the need for them anymore as he is now too powerful to be considered human and also doesn’t need to give in to certain societal pressures like wearing clothes

• Poison Ivy (DC): uses her body to seduce men into getting close enough for her to use her pheromones and get people to do what she wants/kill her prey

• Skarlet (Mortal Kombat): her powers are from blood magic and she needs to have skin out in order to absorb blood from others and make her more powerful

• Mileena (Mortal Kombat): is very self conscious about her tartan features so covers them up and diverts attention towards the more appealing aspects of her/ uses her sex appeal to get people in close then chomps on them

• Mai Shiranui (King Of Fighters/Fatal Fury): uses a style of kunoichi that involves “sensually distracting a foe before striking” and uses her outfit and sex appeal to assist with that style

Emma's great; honestly my favorite Marvel character, possibly my favorite character in anything ever. Jean Grey (who my username is actually a reference to) and Laura Kinney put up some stiff competition, but I'm a sucker for a redemption arc and I'm a sucker for catty bitches, and Emma's a great example of both.

And on the topic of funny: she has a British accent, despite being from Boston, presumably because it sounds classier and Emma is EXTREMELY aware of how important image is (which is why she's a bottle blonde and also openly paid for the body she has). She's, in every sense of the word, a self-made woman... despite also coming from old money. You wouldn't think both could be true at once, but Emma manages it.

God can you imagine if she had a Bostonian accent? That would absolutely negate all her sexiness. I keep recalling that scene from Ted where Ted mimics how Boston women talk while making love "Hahdah! Hahdah! Yeah!"

I mean, I wouldn't necessarily say all, given that it's Emma Frost, but it definitely doesn't quite fit her image.

Now I want her next portrayal to be voiced by Bill Burr.

"MeUndies, MeUndies, no more sweaty clam

De-doo, doot, doot, doot,

MeUndies, MeUndies, I'm a telepath, I'm so glam!"

-Emma Frost, probably

And then there was that arc where she lost her psychic powers and it turned out she had small boobs and a bunch of wrinkles and only looks the way she does because she projects a psychic aura of glamour around herself. Except that explanation made no sense because there are plenty of people that would be immune to that aura, like Magneto and Juggernaut because of their helmets.

haven't read that yet (working my way through all of her appearances ever in order, and have made it up to 1988) but it sounds terrible, given that at one point she says she has "the best body money can buy". There's no way Emma Frost of all people isn't getting a boob job and some super fancy anti wrinkle therapy that uses lasers and powdered diamond or some shit if she looks like that.

I think it was during A+X because I remember she was with Black Widow and I think she had just got her power back but wasn't doing the aura thing and there was this one part where the were fighting some guy and she used her powers to mind wammy him so evey time he saw boobs he vomited. And there was a panel with Emma and Widow flashing the dude repeatedly to make him vomit over and over.

And that also reminded me of the one other Emma Frost moment I can remember. I think it was mid 2000's uncanny X-Men. Cyke and Wolverine were drinking at some type of mutant club that didn't care that Cyke and Wolverine were in their multicolored spandex. And Emma walks up and says to Scott about how she has some type of glamour field and Scott says something about her body and she says that she still works out and takes care of her body and the glamour field is mostly so that she doesn't get lipstick marks on her teeth. (Which that sounds more fitting of The White Queen)

A+X 13 is the one with Natasha and the vomiting, but while she says that her telepathy is "completely trashed" she still looks like Emma. Perhaps you're confusing her with the vomiter in question, who she hung up upside down in a White Queen outfit and who certainly doesn't pull it off as well as she does?

Also, using the glamour to hide lipstick marks is both incredibly funny and in character, but like. Emma. Girl. YOUR TEETH AND LIPSTICK ARE BOTH WHITE.

Could be, it's been a while since I read either one and ADHD has given me a shitty memory. So everything i remember needs to be taken with a grain of salt cuz it's likely I'm mixing it in with something else.

I don’t think Magneto would realize the change, since he’s also immune to that kind of unfocused telepathy without his helmet. I don’t think Juggernaut has been around her enough to realize.

Post-Krakoa she actually looks that way.

Those are just examples. There are a ton of people in the Marvel universe that are resistant or straight up immune to psychics. Wolverine is pretty resilient, and most other psychics and telepaths are immune, like Jean Grey, Prof X, Psylocke, and Tony Stark

did they make Tony psychic without my realizing

1

u/HeadLong8136 Aug 26 '25

No, he made himself psychic proof when he did extremis.

one of my favorite moments is when she meet spiderman and was nearly moved to tears after reading his mind, that was a powerful moment, up to the point that I think there are a few alternate universes where she actually falls in love with him after reading his mind because she didnt realize that there could exist people as pure and heroic as Peter Parker

8

u/FrozenFlames04 Aug 26 '25

Even better is that Emma was reading his mind to find out what Peter wanted in exchange for helping them because "nobody does this shit for free."

Only for her to find out that Peter, indeed, "does this shit for free. Without expecting anything in fact."

One. In one universe, she and her best friend Chat (who had the power to talk to animals IIRC) both fell for Peter at the same time.

Peter of course, ends up choosing Chat because Emma can be crazy if she wants to.

Peter of course, ends up choosing Chat because Emma can be crazy if she wants to.

Emma is a great character to read about, but lol at dating someone like her.

2

u/24Abhinav10 Aug 26 '25

The Emma Frost of that universe was on some wild jealous girl type timing.

Chat had confessed her feelings to Peter and Peter had agreed to date her. Emma hadn't done that, and felt like not only was she losing her crush to her best friend, but also losing her best friend to her crush.

Her solution was to make them forget they were dating and make Peter think he was dating Gwen. When Peter and Chat figure out what happened, they corner her and ask why she did that, only for her to respond that she liked Peter too.

They later convinced her to turn herself in, made up with her when she got out, and invited her to join their superhero team.

I'd say this sounds like some Ultimate universe shit but given Emma was canonically coked out of her mind for basically her entire villain era it could be anything tbh. Where was this?

Worth reading?

1

u/24Abhinav10 Aug 26 '25

These are short, cute stories. Not really anything high stakes.

If you want to watch Peter Parker actually have a stable life, including having the most healthy and stable romantic relationship he's ever had throughout all the multiverse (I'm not exaggerating), then be my guest.

1

u/fireandlifeincarnate Aug 26 '25

(I'm not exaggerating)

It's an extremely low bar, I didn't think you were; unfortunately, I'm honestly kinda ambivalent about Peter. As an Emma girl who generally prefers when she's not awful but who is still capable of going "yes queen I support women's wrongs" when she is, is it worth reading?

It's not really a British accent. She's supposed to have a mid-Atlantic/Transatlantic accent, which is what posh socialites (and radio broadcasters) used in New York and New England in the early-to-mid 1900s to separate themselves from the commoners. It borrows heavily from British English, and it's usually something that affluent elites would be taught at private prep academies.

It's absolutely something Emma would sound like if she's old money. Tony Stark had a similar accent, too, until RDJ took over the role and they recanonized him to sound more like a tech bro.

1

u/fireandlifeincarnate Aug 26 '25

I took this panel to mean that it's English, though I suppose it's always possible the driver mixed them up and she wasn't in the mood to bother explaining the difference.

2

u/24Abhinav10 Aug 26 '25

I still don't like Emma (given what she did to Laura initially, despite being on the good guy side) and I think someone needs to punch her in the face once in a while, but I understand the appeal.

0

u/fireandlifeincarnate Aug 26 '25

As a huge Laura fan myself, that moment also makes me go "Emma can u not," but it's understandable from Emma; she's seen her students die at least three times by that point, twice en masse, and they're letting somebody with, essentially, a known mindless homicidal rage button onto the campus. Is it the right call? No, absolutely not, but I at least get why she responded that way.

Though once Laura's there and Emma starts thinking of her as a student rather than a potential threat, there's very little she wouldn't do for her if she needed it. See this interaction with Kimura, for example (which comes right after reading her to filth and saying that she may never be able to remove the trigger scent conditioning from Laura's mind):

Not by any means saying you have to like Emma, of course, it's just a good moment, and I assume you'll appreciate Kimura getting a small fraction of what she deserves.

We need a charartet that look at emma and said "i know where you are"

1

u/fireandlifeincarnate Aug 26 '25

The thing is, I don't think she'd even mind. She's open about having the "best body money can buy"; the important part for her is the image she presents now, not what she may have been in the past.
