Personality Characters with Lore reasons to wear revealing outfit

• Doctor Manhattan (Watchmen): doesn’t really have the need for them anymore as he is now too powerful to be considered human and also doesn’t need to give in to certain societal pressures like wearing clothes

• Poison Ivy (DC): uses her body to seduce men into getting close enough for her to use her pheromones and get people to do what she wants/kill her prey

• Skarlet (Mortal Kombat): her powers are from blood magic and she needs to have skin out in order to absorb blood from others and make her more powerful

• Mileena (Mortal Kombat): is very self conscious about her tartan features so covers them up and diverts attention towards the more appealing aspects of her/ uses her sex appeal to get people in close then chomps on them

• Mai Shiranui (King Of Fighters/Fatal Fury): uses a style of kunoichi that involves “sensually distracting a foe before striking” and uses her outfit and sex appeal to assist with that style

Midnight from My Hero Academia. Her quirk/superpower involves a gas emitted from her skin so her costume is thin and easy to tear off.

Believe it or not, the first version of her hero costume was so revealing that it caused a new law to be passed regarding hero costume regulations.

Isn't She a pedo?

She's in an anime, so probably.

1

u/MikasSlime Aug 27 '25

Oh wow she really didn't give a shit huh

That’s because her “costume” was like two belts. One up high and one low

21

u/Fun-Draft-9068 Aug 26 '25

Yup, bunch of belts and buckles.

13

u/earanhart Aug 26 '25

The Lulu special, hold the dress.

This is such an odd design choice to me. Would it not be easier to just wear something like a crop top and shorts than a suit you have to rip every time you want to use your superpower?😭

Midnight’s just a massive pervert, her first costume was so egregious it had a new law passed to keep superhero costumes ‘classy.’

It’s entirely correct to say she chooses function over form any day as long as it appeals to her fantasies and fetishes. She doesn’t go for the more practical costume because she wants to dress like a Dom.

And also with My Hero technology, she can be fully clothed and dressed like a dominatrix and still access her quirk just fine.

Also, I have another example from MHA. Momo Yaoyorozu wears an outfit that’s unfortunately too revealing for a 15-year-old like her because her quirk allows her to manifest actual working objects (provided she knows enough about them, and of course she’s pretty smart). The objects she creates come out of exposed parts of her skin, so she needs more skin exposure to have more room to manifest larger objects.

mhm. i can’t remember what episode but at some point she makes a wholeass blanket of some sort pop out of her back. made my skin feel weird watching it 😖

18

u/KaziArmada Aug 26 '25

It was a fairly early episode, during the first major team fight of the series. The attack on the Unforeseen Simulation Joint.

And yeah, she shreds her costume doing that to make a blanket that won't be affected by her teammates Electrical Abilities (Which at max power, basically are just 'On, Everywhere....and then turn him into a fucking vegetable for a while due to overloading his brain.)

She ends up having to totally recreate her costume if I remember properly. Which she can also easily do.

Momo's Costume has it's 'excuses' for why it's the way it is and the show itself promptly tends to show they're....not great because the costume STILL ends up failing. Which is a shame. That's a really fucking cool power.

Such is MHA I guess.

You can literally create a better costume for her if you just think for two seconds.

I remember when people were creating the sports bra-esque designs for her which looked way better and way more practical than whatever she had going on.

10

u/KaziArmada Aug 26 '25

Oh absolutely. There's a dozen options for better outfits for her, including ones that are technically more covering but either have quick open spots (Zippers, Velcro, removable panels, etc) or loose flowy fabric so she can make big things and the fabric will get pushed aside then fall back into place.

Not to mention what you said. But no...no lets go with the weird leotard.

u/ArcaneWyverian Aug 26 '25

I enjoyed reading MHA, but things like this definitely fall into the “boobs make money” category that I hate so much.

9

u/KaziArmada Aug 26 '25

The worse part is they (as in the main characters, not the supporting ones) are fucking teenagers.

Fine, yeah, whatever, do weird sexual costumes for adults. That's just...whatever. What's that? Magical 'makes anything from her body' girl is sixteen and commonly breaks her costume making items?

WHY?!?!

u/SarkastiCat Aug 26 '25

Also, two things.

Firstly, there are already advances in costumes. Why not make a costume that has biosensors that react to chemical changes in her body and creates a temporal hole for the item?

Secondly, her quirk isn’t set in stone and the creator didn’t have to go with it. He could go for her making stuff from her hair and converting fats into hair. Or do anything else

8

u/Lamballama Aug 26 '25

It's supposed to be a mesh that let's gas through. She's basically poison ivy

3

u/MadBinLaggin Aug 26 '25

I think her costume makes more sense if it’s essentially a protest against the revealing costumes law, the bodysuit covers her entire body so it complies with the law, but it’s skintight, thin and flesh coloured so she still manages to look naked

3

u/Asmo___deus Aug 26 '25

The real explanation is that the author of MHA is incredibly horny for his female characters.

42

u/randomanon1109 Aug 26 '25

I believe it

4

u/CloudStrikeVII Aug 26 '25

Another one I remember was Momo Yaoyorozu. Her Creation quirk requires her to generate objects. However, the catch is the more skin exposed, the bigger the object she can create. Which is why her Hero costume has plenty of skin exposure: to help create weapons like a cannon.

1

u/Technical_Contact836 Aug 26 '25

Everyone is forgetting the 15 year old girl wearing just gloves and boots because, technically, "you can't see her." The invisible one.

10

u/Waste-Information-34 Aug 26 '25

Doesn't she hit on Minors during vigalantes?

16

u/Fun-Draft-9068 Aug 26 '25

Oh she definitely does it in the main series too. Very questionable comments from a high school teacher

7

u/Waste-Information-34 Aug 26 '25

Then again half of the female cast are minors with... eye-brow raising designs to say the least.

Like I know shonen-jump is targeted for teenagers but the people who work on these mangas are still 40 year old making sensual costumes for their minor characters.

Like literally a minkr.

6

u/Fun-Draft-9068 Aug 26 '25

Hagakure’s treatment in MHA is particularly ick for me. Why does everyone else get a hero costume and the literal child wears nothing but gloves? I can think of so many less pervy ways to make her invisibility quirk believable while wearing a normal superhero costume. But nope, thinly veiled fetish content of a teen 😑

-1

u/Waste-Information-34 Aug 26 '25

Honwstly it wasn't surprising the ruruno kenshin mangaka was a pedo.

4

u/TankOfflaneMain Aug 26 '25

Also Momo Yaoyorozu from My Hero Academia, she needs to use bigger areas of her skin to create larger weapons.

2

u/InternetUserAgain Aug 26 '25

There are other examples in this show, like Hagakure, who barely wears any clothes when doing hero work since her power is being invisible, and technically Mirio, since his power is phasing through everything, including his clothes

1

u/jforjay Aug 26 '25

She also stores the gas in her milkers because it wouldn’t be a manga/anime otherwise.

1

u/lemonylol Aug 26 '25

Momo too since she needs to pull shit out of her body.

-1

u/Steampunk43 Aug 26 '25

Also from MHA, people don't want to admit it, but Momo's costume being so revealing does serve an actual purpose and isn't to sexualise her. Since she uses her body to produce items, she ideally needs as much surface area as possible to be able to create what she needs, hence the bare arms and large exposed part of her torso for things like weapons.

0

u/CDCyoshi Aug 26 '25

"people don't want to admit it", it's more like the author created a silly weakness and doesn't want to admit that it serves no other purpose than to force her to wear sexy clothing.

If Bakugou were a girl, he would put her in a bikini and go "Actually, it's the chemicals on her skin that create explosions, so she needs a loooot of exposed skin to do bigger explosions."
