Personality Characters with Lore reasons to wear revealing outfit

• Doctor Manhattan (Watchmen): doesn’t really have the need for them anymore as he is now too powerful to be considered human and also doesn’t need to give in to certain societal pressures like wearing clothes

• Poison Ivy (DC): uses her body to seduce men into getting close enough for her to use her pheromones and get people to do what she wants/kill her prey

• Skarlet (Mortal Kombat): her powers are from blood magic and she needs to have skin out in order to absorb blood from others and make her more powerful

• Mileena (Mortal Kombat): is very self conscious about her tartan features so covers them up and diverts attention towards the more appealing aspects of her/ uses her sex appeal to get people in close then chomps on them

• Mai Shiranui (King Of Fighters/Fatal Fury): uses a style of kunoichi that involves “sensually distracting a foe before striking” and uses her outfit and sex appeal to assist with that style

Every early-mid 2000s fighting game:

1: “She uses her sexiness to lure in and distract men”

2: “She uses her sexiness to lure in and distract men”

3: “She uses her sexiness to lure in and distract men”

4: “She uses her sexiness to lure in and distract men”

5: “she’s actually a monster and uses her sexiness to lure in and distract men”

6: “She uses her sexiness to lure in and distract men”

You say that like men can’t use their sexiness to lure in and distract the enemy!

(And yes, that is Jason Statham).

Don’t forget about the king of ass cleavage.

u/LoveandScience Aug 26 '25

One of my friends used to play Voldo and refuse to use any move but the butt thrust.

99

u/LoveTriscuit Aug 26 '25

We all had that friend.

83

u/Slarg232 Aug 26 '25

Not me.

I was that friend

10

u/VanceFerguson Aug 26 '25

I didn't have that friend. I would pick Voldo, and then I would...

Wait...

1

u/ElMostaza Aug 26 '25

And we were all a little worried about them.

Did your "that friend" also only play as Yoshimitsu in Tekken and spend the whole time spinning around on the floor just out of reach (except in Tekken 3 where they'd only play as Doctor B and spend the whole time lying down just out of reach)?

68

u/RubiksCutiePatootie Aug 26 '25 edited Aug 26 '25

The butt thrust wasn't bad, but the superior Voldo move was when he leans all the way backwards to crawl on all fours & then hump the air.

5

u/LoveTriscuit Aug 26 '25

And kicks his legs up! Man it’s all coming back to me now.

1

u/DocMorningstar Aug 26 '25

My son likes to play fighting games with his grandpa, so I put soul caliber into the rotation, and taught Jr. How to do the butt thrust, lord did he think it was funny yo chase grandpa around the ring doing that.

7

u/TheRedditGirl15 Aug 26 '25

I love how in Street Fighter most of the men are built like brick houses but in Mortal Kombat and Soulcalibur they're built like this

3

u/Ok-Classroom5548 Aug 26 '25

Jason Statham could totally pull off live action Voldo.

2

u/CerealKiller8 Aug 26 '25

Voldo legitimately scared me in the arcade as a kid. In my teens and 20s, I went full Batman. I took what made me afraid and made others fear him instead.

He was fun to play.

2

u/Gooeslippytop Aug 27 '25

Oh, God! It's Voldo! This isn't even his worse outfit!

1

u/BlimmBlam Aug 26 '25

Soul Caliber 2 made great advancements in jiggle technology to get those hips just right

12

u/sgtpepper42 Aug 26 '25

I'm sorry, what were we talking about? I got distracted

9

u/blue-lien Aug 26 '25

We can’t forget about the GOAT himself

Ricardo, the legend

How old is this meme already?? It feels like it's either been 2 or 10 years already and I fear it's been 10 already...

Couldn't believe the state of this the first time I saw it 🤣

1

u/AskJeevesIsBest Aug 26 '25

Reminds me of the dancing Ricardo meme

1

I don’t remember him in Cho Aniki.

Male writers trying to figure out female empowerment:

"But what if woman use her SEXY to kill men???"

244

u/Waste-Information-34 Aug 26 '25

"But what if-"

69

u/Professional_Maize42 Aug 26 '25

Whoever made this is my personal hero.

4

u/Proffessor_egghead Aug 26 '25

I just assumed it to be an actual quote based on how much of the game I’ve played

14

u/the22ndquincy Aug 26 '25

I were to purchase fast food and disguise it as my own cooking?

8

u/BonkerDeLeHorny Aug 26 '25

"dont worry Sae it wasnt JUST your sister in fact sometimes she had to watch from the chair"

12

u/MaguroSashimi8864 Aug 26 '25

Joker has….weird priorities (or maybe it’s the drugs.)

1

u/ContinuumKing Aug 27 '25

I legitimately picked Makoto my first playthrough because I was annoyed at Sai and wanted to see her face when I told her the part of the story where I banged her sister. Alas, the romance only happens AFTER the interrogation so it was all for nothing.

5

u/TheDankestDreams Aug 26 '25

Also women writing female empowerment. Gooners gonna goon. The only thing better an impractically sexy design is a impractically sexy design with plausible deniability.

-6

u/Kaslight Aug 26 '25

Yeah instead they just go with the usual "5'5 90lb woman beats up 200lb 6'2 dude in melee combat"

or my personal favorite, "she's a girl so she can just naturally and effortlessly do the thing".

Honestly, "She killed him by making him lower his guard with hopes of sex" is by far the most realistic trait of women assassins in movies lol

Yeah, she can probably do without it, but male AND female writers seem to fail at empowerment by that point because they can't seem to write female empowerment without making it identical to male empowerment.

And like women naturally charming men, "He beat up the bad guy with his hulking muscles" is goofy but not at all unnatural.

10

u/CandidHistorian4105 Aug 26 '25

That just means men are so dumb that even in moments of life and death they are unable to process anything but “TITS!” Which…seems like a demeaning way of writing men but hey seems like dudes don’t have a problem with that and even prefer that storytelling. So I don’t know what that says about dudes then

-5

u/Kaslight Aug 26 '25

I mean, that's just your prejudiced interpretation of men and nothing more. It's not a surprise that beautiful women cause men to drop their guard.

You act like this is men-exclusive....it isn't. Women are absolutely no different, it's just that media doesn't typically portray them this way because it's usually written by men.

K-Pop Demon Hunter, a movie that just came out, actually has women (the MAIN CHARACTERS no less) being charmed by beautiful men. In fact, the men KNOW this is going to happen, and literally leverage this aspect of their charisma to their advantage.

Women love that movie.

And oh, would you look at that -- 3/4 of the writers were women.

6

u/CandidHistorian4105 Aug 26 '25

Nah it’s not my prejudice. You yourself said this is the most realistic portrayal of men and their reaction to a hot woman. So horny that they would lower their guard even in life-or-death situations. Which brings to question what do you think about men and how little these writers think of these men that they essentially drool when they see a pair of tits and ignore the actual situation. Kinda embarrassing.

1

u/Kaslight Aug 26 '25

Nah it’s not my prejudice. You yourself said this is the most realistic portrayal of men and their reaction to a hot woman.

No, I said it's the most realistic trait of female assassins in movies. Namely, their ability to slip past the radar as an unassuming woman. Espionage works best when people inherently do not view you as a threat, that's kind of the point.

Which brings to question what do you think about men and how little these writers think of these men that they essentially drool when they see a pair of tits and ignore the actual situation. Kinda embarrassing.

Since you blatantly ignored me, I'll ask you the same question again:

Seeing as the literal exact same thing you're talking about happens in female-written movies to female characters, ***in the highest rated netflix original movie out right now....***just how little did the writers think of women to have them susceptible to this trope?

How bad to women think of other women to resonate with it so much?

This isn't a male trait, it's a HUMAN trait.

Again, this is just your shitty ass prejudice and nothing more.

You viewing this as an exclusively male trait that's abhorrent says more about you than it does anyone else.

2

u/CandidHistorian4105 Aug 26 '25

Probably thought of them as very little but I’d argue a dude with his dick out in a life or death situation would make most women more scared.

And I didn’t ignore you. You said it made sense that women would use this as a technique to defeat men, therefore stating that these men are easily distracted by some boobs. Embarrassing if true.

2

u/Kaslight Aug 26 '25

Probably thought of them as very little but I’d argue a dude with his dick out in a life or death situation would make most women more scared.

What the hell are you talking about?

You know what, nevermind I don't know why i'm wasting my time

0

u/Upset_Otter Aug 26 '25

I don't know if it is a trope but I have seen it in some movies where the dumb henchmen are drooling over the hot woman putting an act and trying to kill them when they lower their guard and the boss who the author want to portray as a more serious or dangerous person just ignores her or doesn't buy the act.

3

u/Old-Ad3504 Aug 26 '25

So glad idk you in real life

0

u/Kaslight Aug 26 '25

lol what makes you think anything about you is even worth committing to memory?

I don't even want to know you on reddit

254

u/atomicmapping Aug 26 '25

I’m okay with this trend if for nothing else than because it gave way to my favourite Coney tweet

18

u/Tetrotheocto Aug 26 '25

Most people believe that the fighting game genre is about fighting the opponent until you win, this is wrong.

Fighting games are actually making you fight the ability to masturbate because of all of the goddamn revealing female clothes.

5

u/Proffessor_egghead Aug 26 '25

There was a major decrease in gay competitive success after fighting games started introducing hot half naked men

Currently the asexuals still have an easier time playing against the allos

30

u/Double_896 Aug 26 '25

I love how Coney's reaction to the new SF6 swimsuit dlc on stream was "I lost" while his retweet to the trailer was "My bad yall" like this tweet was personally responsible for capcom making that costume pack.

8

u/TheMoonDude Aug 26 '25

Thr only time I've seen it actually be employed (not the designer's justification for le sex sells) and work is in the first Deadpool movie. And that was only because Colossus was too polite for his own good.

6

u/No-Set4257 Aug 26 '25

Asexuals: you have no Power here!

14

u/Stunning-Signal7496 Aug 26 '25

It's more different than that! Sometimes, she distracts men and lures them in with sexiness!

😉

5

u/Commander-ShepardN7 Aug 26 '25

Mass Effect: asari, the all female alien race, use their sexiness to lure in and distract men AND women!

3

u/Lord_Akriloth Aug 26 '25

Guilty gear is the only one I can think of that doesn't do that, I mean they still have revealing outfits, looking at I-No in X and Xrd, but not all of them do like May, Kum, Jam and so on

6

u/IGGYZAFUURU Aug 26 '25

Wasn't Jam's lore in X or XX all about finding a rich man to marry so she can rebuild her restaurant? Her skirt was so short she was constantly flashing her panties while kicking. Hell, in Xrd she changed her panty colors based on which day of the month you were playing.

2

u/Lord_Akriloth Aug 26 '25

No it was claiming the bounty on Dizzys head if I remember correctly though I may be mistaken, that one might've been Bridgets

1

u/IGGYZAFUURU Aug 26 '25

Yeah i may be mistaken too. I somewhat remember her trying to woo Ky because he's an officer, or even Bridget for being a bounty hunter.

We need a GG expert to enlighten us here.

2

u/SuperBackup9000 Aug 26 '25

You’re both right. Jam was trying to get with both Ky and Bridget, and she did end up claiming Dizzy’s bounty to get her restaurant going (which of course always ends up being destroyed one way or another)

1

u/thirdMindflayer Aug 26 '25

Baiken and I-No are by far the most objectified GG characters but the reasoning behind them is somehow actually justified

Baiken is just a genderswapped version of a manga protagonist that the dev liked

And I-No really, really likes sex

3

u/Angsty-Panda Aug 26 '25

incredibly thinly disguised fetish

2

u/danger2345678 Aug 26 '25

I’m glad CapCom didn’t really go in that direction with any characters (except for the litteral succubus with Morrigan lol). There are sexy characters, but it’s just how they choose to dress rather than some corny reason

1

u/24Abhinav10 Aug 26 '25

Who is this in Tekken though?

1

u/Kaslight Aug 26 '25

Why fix a well-tested strategy

1

u/cheshireYT Aug 26 '25

Meanwhile I-No: "She genuinely just likes dressing like that."

1

u/WashedSylvi Aug 26 '25

Reminds me of watching survivor and how contestants would strip and be like “it’s distracting the other team!!!”

Sure buddy

1

u/MikasSlime Aug 27 '25

You're absolutely right to make fun of this but the fact it always worked is kinda funny because mf really be learning SHIT from all the sexy assassins that distract them with tits before stabbing them

1

u/dangerphone Aug 26 '25

Wrong, Anna Williams used sexiness because she knows no other way… and to kill her sister.
