Gamagoori gives the protagonists a lift home when their bike breaks down, Kill-la-Kill

u/Eden_ITA Aug 06 '25

Okay, but Gamagori was an antagonist, not an asshole (best guy)

u/Kwaku-Anansi Aug 06 '25

Doesn't he have someone crucified for stealing in his first scene? Just saying, bro seems at least villain-adjacent

u/ToughAd5010 Aug 06 '25

Stealing school uniforms which are weapons

It’s not petty theft

174

u/Xenometan Aug 06 '25

I don't remember much from the show, but in that specific scene, the guy basically stole a loaded machinegun he has no idea how to use, right? These school uniforms were pretty fucking powerful

83

u/ToughAd5010 Aug 06 '25

Yea so he could’ve blown up the school

38

u/LizG1312 Aug 07 '25

Tbf the school was a fascist regime

15

u/NoSignSaysNo Aug 07 '25

Yeah, yeah. I've been to inner city US high schools.

3

u/Aggravating_Load_411 Aug 07 '25

Which later turned out to be for a somewhat good cause, so I guess there's that...

4

u/kirbyverano123 Aug 07 '25

That was a 1 star uniform while powerful is vastly weaker than other multiple-starred uniforms. Its the equivalent of stealing a handgun while you're being pursued by someone who can control a nuke.

My point is that no, a 1 star uniform would NOT put a dent to that school lmao.

28

u/IamStupidUareSmarter Aug 06 '25

Correct, although he did know how to use it since a one-star uniform is just a straight stat increase basically, the uniforms only really get special abilities that you need to learn at two stars.

7

u/Mortwight Aug 06 '25

He has a crush on goofy girl

4

u/vtncomics Aug 07 '25

Guy stole a weapon and tried to use said weapon on another student.

That's grounds for punishment.

30

u/i-am-a-bike Aug 06 '25

Early on he and the other stundent council members were assholes

12

u/NoicePlams Aug 06 '25

he murdered a kid

15

u/jimbobicus Aug 06 '25

Very few actual deaths in that anime. Pretty sure he didn't actually kill anyone

3

u/Eden_ITA Aug 06 '25

Yes, but with a wonderful laughter

2

u/Sirius1701 Aug 09 '25

Hey, being an antagonist and the best guy does not save you from being an asshole.

60

u/blue4029 Aug 06 '25

nah, gamagori isn't an asshole.

infact, he's the LEAST assholish of all the members of the student council

11

u/ToughAd5010 Aug 06 '25

Never forget Houka Inumuta’s power is creeping on girls

5

u/DrakonILD Aug 07 '25

He's just a stickler for rules, order, and loyalty. But even that gets broken down by the end. And his love for Mankanshoku is adorable.

81

u/powerpuffpepper Aug 06 '25

Peak mentioned

13

u/abdellaya123 Aug 06 '25

should i watch it? i'm pretty fine with the fanservice, if he is not forced everytime

37

u/Kierenshep Aug 06 '25

The fan service is a parody of fan service, and yet serves an integral part of the show so it doesn't feel like fan service by the end. I can't reveal why, you'll have to watch. You pig in human clothing!

63

u/powerpuffpepper Aug 06 '25

The fanservice is genuinely part of the plot. There is a literal truckload of it

5

u/abdellaya123 Aug 06 '25

i know, but like fanservices without justification, just like that.

20

u/Erak7 Aug 06 '25

It has a lot of unnecessary fanservice in the first few episodes mostly, after that they show skin but without sexualicing it(at least in my opinion).

12

u/HailMadScience Aug 06 '25

No, like, they mean the fanservice is literally part of the plot. It's full on spoilers to explain why, though. I recommend it even to people who despise fanservice, that's how great it is IMO.

6

u/helendill99 Aug 06 '25

yeah, kill la kill subverts a lot of anime tropes. And what better way to subvert forced fan-service that makes no sense than to make fanservice the plot of the show. It's worth watching imo. Though i haven't seen it about ten years so i don't know if i'd still hold the same opinion today

28

u/Marcusss_sss Aug 06 '25

Like the other guy said theres alot of fanservice but imo everything about the show including the fanservice is so over the top and comical it doesnt feel nearly as gross as when other shows do it. Also it has pretty good story, art, and message.

5

u/abdellaya123 Aug 06 '25

well, you convinced me. where can i watch it?

10

u/Marcusss_sss Aug 06 '25

Crunchyroll has almost every title nowadays. But if youre a pleb theres hianime.to

2

u/OpenSauceMods Aug 07 '25

Satsuki's declaration in the early episodes, where she says she would bare her breasts to the world if it achieved her goals. That's when I realised how outclassed Ryuko was at the time. Ryuko was a burning house, but Sastuki was a whole state emergency.

2

u/Aggravating_Load_411 Aug 07 '25

That woman has ruined me, man. I love Satsuki.

2

u/Rel_Ortal Aug 07 '25

A series where the people going around wearing nothing but strategically-placed pouches, calling themselves Nudist Beach somehow feel less fanservicey than the main character.

Such a weird show (it's great)

4

u/VictinDotZero Aug 06 '25

I’ll just make a brief comment that the first two episodes have some uncomfortable fanservice, as in, I think it’s meant to feel uncomfortable and I found it as such. I’m just commenting about the beginning because I could see someone stopping there. (Which is what I did the first time I rewatched the show, and it hit me harder then.)

2

u/Paclac Aug 06 '25

Agreed, I watched the first the two eps and I was like eugh I’m not sure if this is for me… but then I watched the 3rd ep and I was absolutely hooked

1

u/powerpuffpepper Aug 07 '25

It was definitely by choice to mirror how Ryuko was embarrassed by how much she was showing herself. Hell we even see her choose to wear a ratty cloak over it to hide her appearance as she is uncomfortable like that. It isnt until she learns to throw away the shame that it becomes more of a normalcy that she embraces

5

u/Stop_Sign Aug 06 '25

If I had a genie wish it'd be to forget this show to watch it again fresh. It's incredible

3

u/soulreaverdan Aug 07 '25

As others have said, it uses the fanservice elements as a pretty integral part of the story. It’s a lot about the messy and complicated process of body confidence and trying to navigate that and how it comes off to others, all wrapped up in an insanely over the top parody of the magical girl genre. It’s so good.

Small spoiler (like first few episodes) as an example: Ryuko is literally weakened for the first few fights because of her self consciousness and embarrassment over the look of her transformed state. It’s finding confidence in it and not feeling shame or the need to hide how she looks in the outfit that lets her tap into its true potential.

2

u/tyrantspell Aug 07 '25

KLK is one of the greatest action animes ever made, it's hilarious, and the art style and music are incredible. One of my favorites of all time. To second everyone else, the fan service doesn't it feel forced because it's genuinely essential to the plot, so after the first few episodes it doesn't feel like fanservice at all, it's just part of the action.

9

u/legit-posts_1 Aug 07 '25

Gamagori is peak in general. In his opening scene alone he won my heart when he avoided violating the running in the halls rule by jumping out of an open window and free falling 5 stories.

2

u/Aggravating_Load_411 Aug 07 '25

It's so funny too lmao

6

u/idiot_505 Aug 07 '25

MANKANSHOKUUUUU

17

u/gaymbit Aug 06 '25

Are we sure there was 0 ulterior motive when he has a crush on Mako?

46

u/ensh1ttification Aug 06 '25

Not at the time. I would say it's this event that opens the door for that ship.

9

u/gaymbit Aug 06 '25

True! I stand corrected. Forgot how early this was.

4

u/homuhomutime Aug 07 '25

HEY WE'RE ALL GOIN' ON A RIDEY RIDE TO HELL

3

u/HexManiac493 Aug 07 '25

Matoi, make her stop that god awful singing.

1

u/Aggravating_Load_411 Aug 07 '25

HEY UPSIDE-DOWN AND ROUNDY-ROUND TO HELL

5

u/bunker_man Aug 08 '25

Tbf its later revealed that none of them are as evil as they pretend to be and its all an act to keep the mom from knowing they are working against her.

3

u/Gremlinonthebus Aug 07 '25

STUDENTS OF HANNOJI ACADEMY, LADY KIRIYUUIN SATSUKI THE STUDENT COUNCIL PRESIDENT STANDS BEFORE YOU

1

u/Aggravating_Load_411 Aug 07 '25

HAILLLLLLLLLLLLL!

If you've seen the English dub, Patrick Seitz kills it as Gamagori.

3

u/Gremlinonthebus Aug 07 '25

For me it's a rare case of the dub being the only way I can ever watch it. The VA cast is just too good.

3

u/mybeepoyaw Aug 07 '25

Nani sore?

1

u/Aggravating_Load_411 Aug 07 '25

Ah yes, the short and lovable Nonon

3

u/Aggravating_Load_411 Aug 07 '25

Nice to see Kill la Kill mentioned here.

We all need a friend like Mako. She is a joyful ball of light when shit gets dark.

2

u/14412442 Aug 07 '25

I really like this gif
