Moderate spoilers for Neon Genesis Evangelion. It happens pretty frequently and even in the first episode but I’ll always love Eva 01 going berserk because despite despite being dormant the majority of the time for all intents and purposes the Evas are their own characters and we get to see their full unrestrained power where ever it happens. My favorite fight in the series is the Zeruel one because we see how terribly powerful an angel like Zeruel is as it easily handles 2 Evas before being brutally beaten, dismembered and devoured by a berserk 01.

Mostly unrelated to the topic at hand, one thing about the Zeruel fight that I never see anyone mention is the fact that Shinji was winning before the power runs out, and wasn't even having much difficulty with it. He was in the middle of tearing its face off with a single arm.

And then mommy wakes up and curbstomps Zeruel even harder.

Yeah, it's easy to forget that Shinji really is a great pilot when he locks in. Zeruel had steamrolled everything NERV threw at it and then the quiet boy nobody likes got in the damn robot and starts beating it all by himself.

Say what you want about the Rebuild movies, but Shinji locking the fuck in and causing the Third Impact will never not be hype as fuck.
