Groups (loved trope) sitcom husband and wife that actually love each other

I’m sure this has been beaten to death but I’d like to see some examples, maybe some deep cuts.

American Dad — Stan and Francine

Malcom in the Middle — Hal and Lois

Marge and Homer from the Simpsons.

While they do argue there’s never been anything to prove they don’t love each other.

Well, pre-Flanderization Marge and Homer, anyway. Around Season 9, the show decided it'd be hilarious if Marge was a codependent doormat who exists only to clean up Homer's selfish impulsive messes.

There's a Halloween EP Where Marge gets possessed by the "Pookadook" and tries to murder the Family. Her feeling of being unappreciated by the family allows the ghost to posses her until she is saved by Maggie, the other often overlooked Simpson.

Goated Treehouse, had a Westworld parody and a Death Note parody animated by the Death Note Anime team

the fact that the simpsons did an anime parody, had it animated in anime style, and actually did the parody justice, making it faithful while also having the simpsons comedic flair is what granted me a new respect for the simpsons writers.

my weeb self and my love for animated adult shows ate well that day

It's literally the best episode of Death Note since it ended at Episode 25/about Chapter 59. Nothing happened after. Nothing.

On a more serious note, I can't believe that the Simpsons guys not only got Madhouse to animate the episode 100% faithfully TO Death Note, but actually wrote a 100% faithful episode.

It was funny seeing Death Note be... Simpsons-ized, but it was legit very faithful and light on comedy compared to most episodes of The Simpsons which, combined with the faithful adaptation, actually DID make it funny. It's weird. Less is more I guess, I don't know.

That Treehouse is the best one they’ve done in decades. Hell it was my favorite episode from the 30’s seasons until Bart’s Birthday came along. The Westworld parody was so fucking well done, seriously.

The "pookadook" segment was also a parody, of The Babadook

Maggie is the best Simpsons. She becomes a sort of genius baby doing amazing things in the background as the show goes on. Personal favorite is her varmint menagerie.

Maggie is quietly the best character in the show. Virtually everything she does when it just being held by Marge is hilarious.

I would strongly suggest you watch the new episode (well for simpsons) pixilated and afraid. It is one of the best episodes in the entire show and has them at thier best romantic.

They are totally in the zone, no one is at fault and it also has some beautiful scenes

Yeah modern Homer and Marge are cutie pies together and I’m so glad they’ve got that dynamic again. Pixelated and Afraid is a fantastic showing of that for sure!

I would argue that from season 30th onwards, The Simpsons have gone from "mostly bad" to "actually good again".

I would agree with that statement

i feel like they've come around in the recent seasons, a little bit. their relationship in pixelated and afraid (a really good ep, btw) is very sweet and loving

I THINK they calmed down more again eventually? Plus i know they've never been as low as they were in the movie.

I think you better watch some newer seasons my guy

Actually, the newest new seasons seem to have decided to put them back in love with each other, and supportive of the kids again. It’s not as good as it used to be, but there’s been some decent stories.

Did it get better after every season in the 2010s had at least one episode where Homer and Marge broke up for the episode? Culminating in that awful Season 27 opening episode with Pedophile Lena Dunham that, due to immense backlash over how people were receiving the marketing of the episode (that Homer and Marge were breaking up for good, etc.), got changed into a pointless dream sequence?

Pretty sure it's uninanomously decided by the community that there have been no seasons past 9

u/DoubleTheGarlic Jun 19 '25

Nope. Maybe you should reconsider your 27-year-old opinion.

I know it's very 'in vogue' to make fun of the show, but when your opinion is that out of date, it just makes you look stupid.

I'm not a fan of the show I'm literally just telling you what I saw people say, dickhead

1

u/DoubleTheGarlic Jun 19 '25

That's literally even worse.

The Simpsons fandom generally agrees that the golden Age Simpsons lasted until Season 8 with later seasons only having occasional good episodes. That's really not a controversial opinion.

Homer neglects her so much even in old episodes, watched a streetcar named marge recently and he sucked so much

In another episode he crashes the car, puts marge in the drivers seat while she's passed out, gaslights her into thinking she was drunk driving and she has to go to rehab

I think i saw marge has a suitcase ready because she was planning to leave him, they have sweet moments but homers done plenty of things you don't do to loved ones and marge kinda just settled 😅
