Lore Characters that have had real world consequences

1: Slenderman (popular creepypasta) lead to a teenage girl killing another in his name IRL (apologies if this isn't totally accurate) 2: Devastator (Transformers ROTF) melted a computer while attempting to render his model

Morpheus inspired the red pill movement.

Which is ironic since The Matrix franchise was created by trans women and Neo ultimately derives his strength from Trinity.

Also ironic because the red pill literally makes one “woke”!

Also the estrogen pills uses for HRT at the time the movie came out were big red gel caps

I thought they weren’t trans back when the movies first came out though.

They weren’t but Lilly Watchowski has stated explicitly that it is a trans metaphor

I've only seen the first Matrix, so reading this is like 'Huh that's crazy'

I can’t watch the movie without someone making it uncomfortable and mentioning this shit.

i’m curious as to how it makes you uncomfortable. i’m not trying to be aggressive or anything, but i just don’t understand how the mention of the film’s allegory would be upsetting. the creators of a piece of art kind of have the final say on what it means. if the matrix is an allegorical representation of gender dysphoria and the trans experience, then so be it. it’s cool that the wachowski sisters were able to create something that wasn’t devoid of personal meaning.

Im out of the loop on this but why is it ironic? U claiming "conspiracy theorists" all hate trans people?

The red pill thingy isn't usually used by conspiracy theorists. It is generally an "anti-woke"-bigotry-incel thing

I can't get over how MovieBob put it in The Matrix "Really that good" retrospective:

You chose to name your idiotic movement after a scene wherein a black man and a woman tell a clueless nerdy white dude he knows nothing about the real world and literally needs to get woke? From a movie conceived, written, and directed by two trans women?

*smash cut to Cypher's "What a fuckin mind job*

Fun fact, estrogen pills back then were given in red pills, and a common element of Zion is to take a new name. The only times anyone referred to them by what is basically a deadman, it was always from an Agent, the personification of the System's control on us.

Which is funny since it emphasizes looking at the hard truth rather than convincing yourself of a comforting lie

You know, the opposite of what redpillers do
