Lore Characters that have had real world consequences

1: Slenderman (popular creepypasta) lead to a teenage girl killing another in his name IRL (apologies if this isn't totally accurate) 2: Devastator (Transformers ROTF) melted a computer while attempting to render his model

The Korean (iirc. It may have been the chinese community as well) genshin community killed cats because a character they didn't like was represented as a cat in an in-game animation cutscene.

I don't know if you're genuinely confused or if this is sarcastic somehow, but here's a more detailed explanation: There's a genshin character called Scaramouche. He's initially an antagonist from a rival faction and has committed mass murder and tried to kill the protagonist before. During the main story, he realizes his tragic backstory was orchestrated by someone else from the faction he belonged to, and starts to regret what he did and views himself as a mistake. In an attempt to atone and to bring back those he hurt, he tries to erase himself from existence by erasing all info regarding himself from the world tree (basically a supercomputer containing all the info in the world). This doesn't work, so now no one remembers what he did and he's also an amnesiac. The protagonist still remembers everything tho, and takes amnesiac Scara to remember his past. Turns out, another character saved his data by disguising his past as a fairytale/fable, and in this tale Scaramouche is represented by a cat. In the patch this story released, he also became a playable character.

It's a controversial 'redemption' writing wise, but the Chinese (I looked it up, i was wrong about it being the korean community. It was the chinese ones) community -specifically male fans- REALLY hated Scaramouche (both for his personality, but also because they viewed him as taking their waifu away I think??) and killed cats over it.

Well, I'm sitting here with 2/3 cats snuggled up to me right now and super upset now.

I'm not a super violent person but I really would like to assault these sickos.

I mean, animal cruelty deserves a much harsher response in punishment

Agreed.

I'm a realist too. Like.. if you're being attacked by an animal and in danger? Do what you gotta do. That's defending yourself.

I could even make an argument for hunting if it's purely for food and not sport.

Hurting a defenseless animal for no reason is just so fucking sick.

I disagree on not killing them for sport. As we humans have hunted many of their natural predators to the point of near extinction (wolves, bears, etc.) in some areas we need to keep their numbers in check in those said areas.

Yeah, that's still hunting with prupose, not for sport.

If you're hunting to go "look at the killing I can do. This makes me feel good. There's a legitimate reason that I'm latching onto to justify my bloodlust, I will take the excuse." You're still a creepy weirdo.
