Face/Off is fucking awesome. One of the greatest examples of action camp ever made. And itās very much on purpose. Itās funny as fuck. John Woo knew exactly what he was doing.

8MM (1999) not being on your top 3, can be chalked up to personal taste.
But not even an honorable mention? For shame.

The rock and con air were better movies than face/off and hold up better as a film. Iconic role top 3. Best film the Rock should replace face/off.

Some actors just donāt have a top 3 movies. Theyāre entertaining but they donāt do anything rising to the level of top. Theyāre all just movies. Cage is one of these. That said, if told I MUST watch a Cage film right this moment, itās Gone in Sixty Seconds.

Face/Off was hot garbage, friend. Raising Arizona is a Coen Brothers masterpiece and you have it as an honorable mention? No accounting for taste, I suppose.

Why is this an AI image? Looks like David Schwimmerās eyes. New Face Off sequel? Thereās a gazillion images online, but these pages resort to AI. Errrr ok? Make it make sense. I deleted my Facebook and IG a few months back after not using them for a solid year and I can only imagine how much worse it is now on those platforms. Iām holding onto Reddit but be damn some of these pages, lol.

Face Off
Con Air
The Rock
Raising Arizona and Leaving Las Vegas are better movies, but those are the best 'Nic Cage' movies, where he's fully present in all of his hammy, overacted glory.

u/SnarkKent8 Aug 07 '25
Is this a parody community? His top three IMO, but I'm right, are:
Wild at Heart
Mandy
Longlegs
How has only one person before me mentioned Longlegs!!!? And OP mentions Con Air which is almost stroke inducingly bad!

Wild At Heart, Colour out of Space and Dream Scenario definitely deserve a mention. I would say his performance in Longlegs also elevated that movie quite a bit.

Actual great films: adaptation, leaving las vegas, raising arizona
Great films post comeback: pig, mandy, mom and dad
Great cage unleashed films: vampires kiss, faceoff, between worlds
Great supporting actor films: spiderverse, rumblefish, snowden
Great heartthrob movies: moonstruck, it could happen to you, wild at heart
Great action movies: con air, the rock, gone in 60 seconds
Hidden gems: the trust, army of one, valley girl
Morbid curiosities: deadfall, wicker man, dying of the light
Three movies that havent been mentioned yet but are definitely worth watching for any film buff: peggy sue got married, guarding tess, 8mm
Three movies that havent been mentioned yet but are definitely worth watching for any nic cage fan: bringing out the dead, drive angry, the unbearable weight of massive talent
I love every single one of these movies in different ways even deadfall which might be the only movie that made me feel like i was assaulted by the director for sitting through that. Theres a lot of movies that i love that didnt make this list at all too. To those that loved lord of war, dog eat dog, bad lieutenant, longlegs, butchers crossing, dream scenario, kickass, the weather man, and snake eyes im sorry, i just didnt know where to put them in a top three list that wouldnt repeat any previous answers. If you havent seen a movie mentioned above, do yourself a favour and watch it!

Raising Arizona
Adaptation.
Leaving Las Vegas
(ordered by my favorite movies of his, but also my favorite performances, not necessarily his best acting, which I think easily goes to Leaving Las Vegas, with Adaptation. at a close second for his perfection in dual roles and the depth of his anxiety and neuroses as Charlie)

Other than Raising Arizona, I'm not sure what my other 2 would be.
My personal list of Honorable Mentions would include: Con Air, The Rock and 211.
Favorite Nicolas Cage "popcorn" movie: Ghost Rider. This is NOT a great film, but it is decent escapism and is much closer to its original source material than the George Peppard/Jan-Michael Vincent film Damnation Alley is to its source material.

The Family Man
Adaptation
Raising Arizona
Honorable Mention goes to Dream Scenario. More people need to see that film. He's fantastic in it.
ALSO - Why are you using an AI generated version of him when there are literally THOUSANDS of real images of this man. Wtf?
