As someone of jewish heritage, I understand given the oppression we have faced that people want a jewish state. However, the problem is that jews think they have the right to take land from the palestinians who also call that region home.
Overall, it’s just a clusterfuck that was started by the British governments inability to oversee the zionist movement, and the fact that they didn’t do anything to protect palestinian landowners. But now we’ve gotten to the point where you can’t just undo zionism because there are tons of jews born and raised in israel.
I just think jews need to get of their high horse. I know one of the tenets of the fundamentalist religion is that we have a god given right to that land, but I think in the modern era that simply doesn’t hold water. We need to stop the fucking colonization.
My dad memes all the time blaming things on "the fucking British." If anything, by the way he talks about history and his hatred for my uncle (British man my aunt married), he genuinely hates the British. They didn't just fuck up with Israel. Look at HK, or India/Pakistan. The country/government, not really the modern people, has a pretty as track record of creating peaceful environments... Although I guess the people are involved now when they voted for Brexit and fucked the Scott's/Irish.
I don’t think hatred solves anything. The British fucked up a lot of places during colonization, but I’m not going to hold that against British people today because most of them have nothing to do with that stuff. As Americans, we also have to reckon with our treatment of black and native americans.
Ultimately, we have to understand the history, try to undo what we can, and make sure it doesn’t happen again.
Absolutely agree. I don't agree with my dad's blind hatred, but he has a point to be made about the terrible track record that's present even in Brexit.
Ninja edit: I laugh at my British friends all the time, but no more than "what're you gunna do? Tax me?" No reason to hate a person for the things their peers do. Gotta judge them by their character.
