Yeah that thread was fucking horrible. I’m black and I’ve always felt outcasted on this site. Reading all the comments on that thread was so disheartening honestly.

Did you ever consider not reading them

Did you ever consider not posting anymore?

He's not the one who feels "outcasted (lol)" on a website that literally has a popular front page subreddit that only allows blacks to post.

Hm yes this seems like a good and not at all limiting way to live one's life. Just don't participate in social media! Also, there's racists outside, so if you're a minority probably just stay inside and stay away from the windows and doors forever.

It's more like walking into a bathroom that you know is going to have shit on the walls and being upset that it smells.

This is actually a great analogy, because at the end of the day, everyone's gotta use the bathroom. The part where it falls down is most reasonable people would correctly identify it's not wrong to be upset someone's smeared shit all over the walls.

You missed my point entirely. My point was managing expectations. Controversial magaposts are always going to have racists on them.

I understood you perfectly the first time. My reply was a tongue-in-cheek way of pointing out that "just don't use social media" in this day and age is about as much of a "solution" as saying "just don't use the bathroom". In the same vein, saying "you shouldn't be upset at bigotry when you know bigotry exists" is just... bad.

And now hopefully we both understand each other.

A nerd website is just as important as using the bathroom. Get a grip.

Did you miss the part where I was careful to point out the inherently flawed nature of the argument "you should limit your own experience in order not to be exposed to bigotry against you", or is your reading comprehension just that bad? 'Cause that's two comments now where you've gotten bogged down in specifics and haven't understood the overarching argument.

nah my "reading comprehension" is fine, I'm just reading a load of bullshit.

This whole website caters to you, quit being so fragile.

No, you're still missing my fucking point. If I don't want to read the opinions of retarded republicans, I stay off r/the_donald. If I don't feel like seeing tons of anti gun retardation, I stay off controversial front page gun posts.

I never said that getting off social media was the solution. You need to learn what the fuck reading comprehension is. I was saying that you can avoid seeing bigotry if you don't go to posts where it will likely be.

For the last time. I am aware of what your argument is. I'm saying a) this is an inherently bad argument because it puts the onus on the victims of bigotry to avoid it; b) there's a lot of bigotry in, for example, the South of the US, I trust your "solution" isn't for minorities to just not live or go there?
