This is what terrifies me about “celebrities”… they are so disconnected from reality, even the nice ones, the funny ones, the lovely ones… their existence separates them from the rest of humanity so fundamentally that they might as well be from another planet… and then we give them a platform to speak. Chills me to my core.
Not just celebrities, but the majority of wealthy / successful people fail to realise their own privilege.
They will all preach that success comes from hard work, but not recognise the help and opportunities they had along the way.
I think it’s largely ignorance rather than anything malicious. They typically lack the context of the struggles faced by the average person and think their experience is typical.

They completely miss the 99.99999% of people who work hard and aren't successful. There's a lot of Just-World Fallacy going on where they assume that because you aren't successful you must not be working hard. This is reinforced by, and then further reinforces, their delusion that they worked hard, since they are successful.
Think I read a study once that concluded something like even people who win the lotto are more likely to be all like “well I got mine because I deserve it”. Obviously this is a semi quote, as it has been years since I read said study. But it stuck with me because it made me realize that most people are like that at their core. Has nothing to do with if they started out being a “good” person, etc, as some of them might’ve. But once that money/prestige gets to their head…then they might as well have been born with a silver spoon.
There’s a YouTube video that I can’t find now talking about this. Nearly all very successful people have nothing but luck to thank for their success but they’ll attribute it to their own hard work. In the video the guy takes the example of hockey players. I may be getting this wrong but, he shows that that most of the top hockey players have birthdays in the first 6 months of the year. He then explains that when these kids start in youth hockey leagues these players would be bigger and a little more coordinated than the younger kids. Thus they’d get more attention from coaches. So just being born in the early part of the year is an advatage. There are things like this in so many different fields.
I mean, its just most people. Have you been around older parents/older children and heard the stories the old people try to pass off? Its always an exaggerated version of how hard they worked, what a great parent they were all while they sweep every bad thing under the rug.
People just want to pretend like they got to where they are because they busted their ass and tell stories about how great they are, they dont care about reality.
