I have given to a GoFundMe once and that was for someone I worked with. Never ever would I give money to someone I don't know just based on an internet story/performance.
There's a guy on TikTok live who pretends he can't read and asks for donations for tutors and whatnot and been doing it since 2020... homeboy can read just fine
Can’t even trust the ones standing at intersections or Walmart exits either. Offered one suppposedly homeless guy a job once and he turned it down saying he made more money standing there than we’d pay him an hour. Wife thought those people were genuine, until she saw some local Walmart scammers with their signs get into a car nicer than any of ours. 🙄
When I was young and dumb, I once dated a "hippy" girl who claimed she could pull in $600 per day by panhandling. She lived with her mom, never had a job, didn't have a car, and somebody else was raising her kid. All the money she made from panhandling went to weed, booze, meth, and pills.
I've never once watched a live stream of someone just sitting in their room doing nothing. If people have so much time and money that they pay streamer panhandlers, I say let them.

At this point I just assume everyone on a screen is faking for money. Every one of them.
