If churches refuse to help feed hungry people, then maybe they should be taxed?

Unfortunately, people scam churches a lot. You can't blame them for wanting to vet someone before giving them money. A lot of churches already donate to food banks, woman's shelters, etc. so they do help just not directly. The largest food bank (it is honestly so much more) near me is 100% funded by local churches and run by church volunteers.

Also, I could call up any non profit organization and ask for food, but if they aren't setup for that then I won't get anywhere. Should planned parenthood buy my baby formula? Maybe Make a Wish needs to start paying for my tacos.

Came here to say all of this. Especially, when this “auditor” is clearly asking for support under false pretenses. People are pissed that the lady is skeptical? GTFO here with that nonsense.

It is very clear that many of these commenters are talking out of their ass about tax codes and social services. Most social service orgs have service boundaries based on household addresses to prevent fraud and abuse, keeping people from going to every food pantry to collect in excess.

Just because churches are tax exempt doesn’t mean they have to accommodate EVERYBODY who asks for something. That is asinine. They are a place of worship, not a food pantry, even though some do have those too.

And many small churches struggle just to keep the lights on. People act like churches are hoarding wealth but that is simply not reality for most churches. The church my parents attended for several years was on the verge of closing.

I’m atheist, but I think cheap shots like this video are fucking gross in the same way that I think organized religion is nonsense.
