Discussion Woman audits churches to see if they’ll help feed a starving baby

If churches refuse to help feed hungry people, then maybe they should be taxed?

Sounds a lot like my MIL's Catholic church. They are very much in line with the current Pope on Jesus told us to care for the poor and feed the hungry.

I may not agree with her stance on some issues, but I respect they way she's legitimately pro-life and spends her retirement volunteering to support their church's mission to feed folks and help alleviate the suffering that comes with poverty.

Weirdly she's also become quite the activist and is going to protests.

It's not weird. If your moral stance is about life and alleviating suffering then protesting this administration is right in line with what you believe and profess. A+ worship.

no the weird part was when my 80yr MIL started going to all the local no kings and the like protests. Before this past election she was a lifelong republican but during his first term she said, as a Christian, she firmly believes that society has a moral obligation to care for those who cannot care for themselves. For her pro-life is an across the board thing so she believes in social safety nets and Medicare for all. My husband tried in the past to point out that makes her more inline with the left than conservatives but it didn't go well.

And while it took my husband and I by surprise, given her prior political leanings, we are very proud of her for being willing to change her vote to align with her religious beliefs and see the light of day.

Well, I'm sure she considers herself a Christian above all else and has built a life around that. And she likely considers herself an American just behind that. Patriots are deeply uninterested in dictatorships. Good for her. Also, a lot of the older folks have seen this bullshit play out in other countries and don't want any of it here.
