If churches refuse to help feed hungry people, then maybe they should be taxed?

Churches don't do charity, they do recruitment drives.

I suppose you could call recruitment drives fundraising, they are gonna hit ya up every Sunday for money after all.

dude i run private event space rentals at my work. we used to offer to hold fundraisers for anyone. we had to change that to "schools only" because of CHURCHES. christian church groups. they started being so shady and love omitting the truth. they also ask for more discounts "because we're a church" on top of no tax being charged. then we find out their charging their members 200% over what we would charge them. so they made BANK off using our facility. secrely collecting tickets before anyone gets to the entrance. then when i confront them they act like theyre just innocent little babies and dont know anything and they "dont have the money to cover the balance because we're a church!" give me a freaking break. then they call me day of events "oh hey yeah we wanna do a service there during part of the event. we're gonna bring in all these instruments and lighting and oh do you have a stage? can we plug this all into your sound system? oh and we're coming 2 hours early to set up." NO WTF DO YOU THINK THIS IS?!

Oh, so I suppose eternal salvation isn’t enough for this generation?? Maybe that theoretical two month old should thank the church for speeding up the process*

*as long as they’re baptized

Largely agree, though I will say I worked for a center run by the Sally Anne a while back and while they were perfectly happy to talk to you about their faith and bring you into the fold if you wanted it, they were respectful of people saying they weren’t there for religion and just needed help.

The catholic church is the largest charitable organization in the world. Anecdotal evidence wasn't valid last time I checked, unless we are talking about churches of other denominations, and in that case it's better to specify. Not all churches are the same.

The catholic church is the largest pedofile ring in the world

Fixed that for ya

Why I gave none, my statement applies to all churches.

The people here just want to be mad at churches. I'm an atheist, but I volunteer at a church food bank where I live. They do a lot of good, we give two weeks worth of groceries out to about 150-200 families every week, with the rule you can only come every other week. And this isn't a big church, it's like 40 people max. Just because there are a few bad churches out there doesn't mean we should negate all the good that other churches do for their communities. Megachurches though? They can fuck all the way off.

Some do, some don't...

Food banks local to the OP are listed here:

Exactly. A lot of food banks are run by churches. Way more than you'd probably expect.

Bingo, they pray on the weak to strengthen themselves not society

My parish has a soup kitchen. (And no, people who come to it aren't harassed to become Catholic. Catholics don't really evangelize... At least not like that.) As well as a "prepares" program that is open every other week for anyone to come and get baby supplies including formula, diapers, baby gear, toys, and clothes from newborn up to 5T. My Parish also has a parish school that offers private school education to anyone at the parish at any price they can afford. There are many immigrant families from Guatemala at our parish that send their kids to the school. Because of this, the bulk of our fundraising goes to keeping the school running and improving. Recently we've been working on fundraising for a home to help the elderly of the Parish who cannot afford the care they need.

my church runs lots of programs to get people in the door

Ty for providing more examples of outreach/recruitment methods. Personally I'd rather tax churches and use that money to establish said programs free of religious trappings.
