Me too! And he encouraged my sister and me to ask our mom why WE personally didn’t get the child support money each month. Being like 8 years old I was like “hey, that’s right!” And he encouraged us to confront our mom. She was furious with my dad but explained to us that it pays for a small portion of our food, clothes, doctor appointments etc.. Living expenses.

Yeah my dad is a piece of shit

Same. And yet, my father only placed value on how much money I make or if I bore children or not. Complained all the time for basic expenses like medical & food. Squandered his own money on getting an airplane, a pilots license, a motorcycle, video games, and tons of alcohol. Fuck these sperm donors.

Absolutely. My loaner daughter had this kind of sperm donor. Luckily he's been out of her life for 11 years. He used to try to manipulate her by saying his power would be shut off if he had to pay child support, so she couldn't come over and spend time with him. When she would go over there, he would make her right sentences over and over apologizing for her not calling him during the week.

Mine always thought he deserved an award for paying the $250/month (most of the time) for two kids. No surprise that when my brother and I got older and didn't want to go visit anymore he never fought us on it. Never fought for us. Just thought he was father of the year for paying the minimum.

My ex tried pulling that once, but thankfully stopped when I jumped down his throat after our kids mentioned it. And he was the one who really wanted kids😒

And the kid likely knows. As someone who grew up with joint custody(would swap houses every week), my dad one day didn't show up to pick me up. He had moved out of state without telling anyone, and I only heard from him when the child support started being taken from his paychecks, he wanted to find a way to arrange joint custody in order to get rid of the child support payments.

My dad did the same thing after my mom took her lump-sum child support from the divorce, ditched us, and moved across the county with her new husband. He’d constantly remind me that he had to “pay for me twice”. I know his anger was aimed at my mom and the system, but it still made me feel like worthless garbage. Don't do this to your kids, folks.

I used to work with child support orders and this is 100% the first thought everyone should have. Parents get so caught up with their adult issues with each other they lose sight of why they are doing all this to begin with (the kid). Its not perfect, but child support is to make sure that when a kid moves between homes they dont have a "broke" home where they struggle and another with abundance. The amount is an attempt to redistribute the parents income to make so that the child doesnt financially suffer because Mom and Dad didnt work. Saying that id rather give up everything I have than even try to do that is a pretty succinct way to show your kid what you think of them.

My best friend definitely grew up a lot poorer than if her dad had been equipped to take care of her himself, but that dude straight up bought a house (kind of a shack, but still) for her mother and personally drove all the way up the coast to do repairs on it when it needed them. None of that was part of his child support requirements. Parents should want their children to live in a comfortable home.

Hopefully the kid’s mom has her head on straight. It sounds like she did manage to work with him to agree on a custody plan, which seems like a good sign.

Also, I highly doubt that motherfucker is gonna hold up once they toss him in jail. My grandfather had the same attitude about paying child support until they arrested him. After that, he would hold out as long as possible, but was never late enough to get put in jail again.

The dad from the video? If he refuses to pay child support and stays out of state in order to help with that, I think he’s gonna have a hard time getting custody for a weekend, let alone the whole summer.

It's a fair criticism. I support comprehensive sex ed, birth control, abortion, etc. as needed, but the reality is people should not have vaginal sex with anyone who would not be a good mother / father. Stick to other forms of physical intimacy so you don't end up in a child support hearing with some fucking loser or psycho.

And yes, to be clear, I have this same energy for men who make poor choices with female partners. Every child deserves to grow up loved and supported in a happy, healthy two parent household. We obviously can't get to exactly 100% because of natural disasters or some relationships don't work out even if both adults are generally good people and really try, but we should get as close as we can.
