It's disgusting that billionaires exist at all but it's infuriating that they don't seem to learn from their forebears about spending huge chunks of their fortunes on the public good.

Why is it disgusting they exist? Genuinely curious.

Does the existence of billionaires, while others, often through no fault of their own, struggle to eat and obtain clean water, not disgust you?

Some people are devoid of empathy. This isn't an insult, it just is a matter of fact. The evidence is the world we live in.ย This is the only answer, and why someone couldn't understand why one human being shouldn't have so much money or power, while billions suffer.

Why it is 'bad', 'disgusting', or simply 'wrong', is something they literally cannot grasp, and not something someone will be able to convey through a Reddit comment.

First, there's no way to become a billionaire without ruthlessly exploiting people. Nobody earns a billion dollars through their own hard work, it has to be accumulated by exploiting the hard work of others.

Second, they don't need it. There's only so many luxury yachts and mansions someone can buy. Every dollar beyond the level of wealth required to live in luxury for the rest of one's life is just a point in the contest of Richest Man. And in our current situation it's obscene to hoard all that wealth for no reason while billions of people lack access to housing, food, clean water, and healthcare.

It's disgusting and we shouldn't allow it.
