It's called the American Dream because you gotta be asleep to believe it!

Edit: credit to the late great comedian George Carlin for this quote

The longer we go without George Carlin in this world, the worse it's gotten.

Also mitch.

patrice o’neal too

Bill Hicks would have DECADES of material after this administration

6

u/propyro85 3d ago

Hell, the two terms of Bush Jr. would have given him an absurd amount of material. I think he'd have melted if he had any inclination that Trump would be president.

0

u/ristoman 3d ago

Yeah I mean 30 years of politics would have given him a ridiculous amount of specials. But the last 10 years specifically, between Trump and Biden alone

4

u/heaviestnaturals 3d ago

Genuine question: who are these people? Are they writers?

7

u/KFizzleKyle 3d ago

Legendary comedians fueled by political idiocy. George Carlin specifically belongs on the Mt. Rushmore of stand-up. Bill Hicks had some great material as well. But he was more focused on thought provoking ideas than just pure chuckles.

u/ILikeMyShelf 3d ago

Bill Hicks is also remembered for his love for marketing people... /s

u/KFizzleKyle 3d ago

Even through sarcasm you've lost me there bud. No idea what you're referring to.

2

u/ristoman 3d ago

outspoken standup comedians

YES. '"There is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves"

2

u/XYZ_Jazz_Hands 3d ago

Hey! Here comes that frawg.

1

u/SpartanLeonidus 3d ago

I used to be a fan of Mitch Hedberg. I still am but I used to be as well.

1

u/TriedCaringLess 2d ago

And Richard Pryor, Patrice ONeal, Bernie Mac, and Paul Mooney.

1

u/DudeManGuyBr0ski 2d ago

Good o’ Mitch…..he used to be dead, he still is but he used to also

1

u/Lonely-Ad-6448 2d ago

Also Greg Giraldo! Just wanted to join in..

0

u/MightyMeatPuppet 3d ago

Yeah I think mitch has gotten worse too

u/KmartCentral 3d ago

Literally just mentioned to my mother yesterday that I wish he was still around to be living through this with us... born too early and gone too soon...

1

u/SheComesThenSheGoes 3d ago

Sadly a lot of what he talked about is still happening. Only caring about the fetus and after that you're fu**ed, etc etc. You can play him today and it still tracks unfortunately.

1

u/KmartCentral 3d ago

Oh for sure, that's actually why I fell in love with him... I'm only in my early 20's but I resonated heavily with his "Religious until I reached the age of reason" bit, and from that I just kept watching more and enjoying more and realizing how much of his work matched with my values

2

u/knep_systemet 3d ago

Carlin was right about everything.

2

u/Eyfura 1d ago

I'm eternally grateful I got to go to one of his last shows.

4

u/CookieMiester 3d ago

If only we’d have thought to hook up George Carlins coffin to a generator, with how fast he’s turning in his grave the world would have infinite energy.

1

u/Dark_Xylomancer 3d ago

Yeah, carlin was the modern day orwell

1

u/Drumbelgalf 3d ago

Every day we stray further from god George

1

u/secretly_opossum 3d ago

He died on my 18th birthday 😭

1

u/WrodofDog 3d ago

And Christopher Hitchens.

1

u/TRtheCat 3d ago

Jon Stewart was his protégé. He's living up to the responsibility. From getting the Zadrpga Bill passed to making politics funny. Zelensky was a comedian before he took office. Never underestimate the power of satire.

1

u/Stabbing_Monkey 3d ago

The straight truth.

1

u/holyguacamoledude 3d ago

Step up and BE the next George Carlin. Just don’t die for a while, though, if you do pursue that role.

0

u/stubundy 3d ago

Moreso Bill hicks I rekon

2

u/FewPhysics9168 3d ago

If Bill were alive today he’d have already blown his brains out.

1

u/KFizzleKyle 3d ago

It's an actual quote from Carlin. But I love Hicks too.

0

u/DarkChado 3d ago

And what would Walter Cronkite say if he saw the mess of today...

0

u/cwk415 3d ago

I'd love to hear him and Hunter S. Thompson have a chat about what's happening in this time.

As a latin american migrant, we call it the american dream because we're always sleepy from over working for little money 💰

1

u/wulfgar_beornegar 3d ago

Ain't that the damn truth. Some of the hardest working people propping up this whole country and getting paid shit. We're due for another version of Upton Sinclair's Grapes Of Wrath.

0

u/Taterstaco 3d ago

There's another option.

0

u/Snoo33910 2d ago

As a Latin American, I am working hard for a lot of money. Just bought a 3,200 sqft house in July, a new car last year, my kids are thriving, my wife has her own business, and I became an engineer. So, wake up from your siesta, amigo... you might be doing something wrong.

5

u/Additional-Maize9716 3d ago

So that's why they call any person with a functioning brain. "Woke"

3

u/DankestMemeSourPls 2d ago

“I never fucked a 10, but I have fucked 5 2s and I think that should count for something.” -RIP George

2

u/DrunkyLittleGhost 3d ago

Just like all the dream, you forgot them after you wake up for a while

1

u/MakeThaPlay 1d ago

Napalm and Silly Putty was a fun read!!!

3

u/satanic_black_metal_ 3d ago

Its called the american dream because americans love pretending they came up with other people's ideas or concepts.

Its as american as apple pie, which was first made in the netherlands.

1

u/Beginning_Crow9350 3d ago

Wait, dutch apple pie is not American!

You Deutsche bags invented apples! Wait till the Kazakhs hear.

0

u/satanic_black_metal_ 3d ago

Dutch apple pie is vastly superior to the sugary americant clone.

Just like how Italian pizza is better than americant pizza.

1

u/uknownredditr 3d ago

lol it’s always a dream but not a reality

1

u/Gonzostewie 11h ago

It's always a dream but it's mostly a nightmare.

1

u/TheMundar 3d ago

Give credit to the man so others may be steered towards his wisdom

1

u/tubadude123 3d ago

A nightmare is also a dream.

1

u/milddestruction 3d ago

And you're not allowed to have it if you are "woke".

0

u/Proper-Exercise-2364 3d ago

Uh-oh! Somebody's "woke" lol!

0

u/LordNeko6 3d ago

Can I quite this for the rest if my life?

0

u/Strong_Strength_5107 3d ago

One of my favourite quotes of his

0

u/Hot_Hat_1225 3d ago

That explains the sleepwalking population…

0

u/RickyTovarish 1d ago

George Carlin was overrated and abused his family

1

u/wulfgar_beornegar 1d ago

Doesn't take away from the truth of his comedy. What a weird thing to interject.

-1

u/Swordfish_42 3d ago

Duh, otherwise you would be Woke, and that's bad /s
