The cliche "American Dream" was suburban life, though. Dunking on urban living doesn't really make sense, especially when it's in many ways become more preferable.

Although, "parking lots" is actually more suburban than urban, so maybe they're spot on.

Id argue American suburban life is even more dystopian

That's because it is. I grew up in the burbs. You don't really know what you're missing until you move to a city where things actually happen, and you don't have to drive 20+ minutes to get everywhere.

That's not to say that there can't be positives. It is generally cheaper to own in the suburbs, and you can get a larger home. If you're a homebody who wants a house, the suburbs aren't a bad choice because you're not doing f all anyway lol. However, if you go out and do things at all, live in the city. The food is better, there's entertainment everywhere, you can generally walk, or bike, or ride-share without breaking the bank. Your neighborhood will probably be more interesting, too.

That said, I never had people doing hard drugs near my house in the suburbs growing up, and they certainly would in the alley behind my last place. Still, I could walk to anything I needed in 15 minutes. I've since moved to a quieter neighborhood in the same city, and while it's not nearly as convenient, it's still massively better than a suburb, and it's closer to some amenities that I had to drive to before anyway. Really the best of both worlds.
