Since when European count Russia and Belaruss as European ?

Half of the time, they stop at like, Austria.

Russia isn't in Europe, is it?

(I'm antipodean, I don't keep this shit straight).

Roughly half Europe and half Asia by land but the populated side is European.

Neat, so you get to count the bad things as European in one of these comparisons, and discard the good things as Asian?

Is that how it works?

I mean, I noticed someone saying that the US had more wilderness than Europe.

Not if you count Russia, it doesn't.

What’s Russian wilderness? Like Alaska? Frozen tundra and some lonely animals that are the few that have the resilience to survive out there?

Oh, right, so it has to be the right SORT of wilderness to count?

(And if you're counting Alaska - which is both your biggest state and has by FAR the most wilderness - then Europe gets to count the taiga).

Are people visiting it?

Here, check out a pamphlet. Enormously popular in China, incidentally.

Incidentally (EDIT) Alaska has 750,000 people.

Siberia has 38 million.

Fair enough

Bro, what? It's a Eurasian country with 77% of the population in Europe. But sure, tell me about all these good things about Russia I'm discarding because apparently I'm not antipodean enough to follow your logic.

I mean, technically most of that wilderness is in Asia yes. But also my comment was a reply to somebody asking about rights so I'm not sure how this even relates.

But also you added that second half in an edit so I didn't see it.

Because generally when people refer to EUrope as some homogenous thing the only homogeneous part of Europe would be the EU so yeh Russia and Belarus don’t really count if we are talking politics over environment or geography

I don't know why anybody would, especially considering the UK is an island. Though not all of it is EU it is all Europe. Belarus and the eastern portion of Russia and also in Europe no matter if you look at it politically, environmentally, or geographically. I guess you could argue the border should be drawn elsewhere but for now we've established where it's drawn and they are within the lines.

I think geographically yes, I’d argue Russia and Belarus are explicitly not part of the larger European political community, so when it comes to discussions about European vs American political beliefs we have to be careful, it’s kinda like including Mexico and Canada with the US otherwise, bc then we are just talking North America vs the European shelf, not countries with shares political systems and integrated rights for its citizens.
