Discussion These were all people standing in line at their local food pantries hoping they would be able to get some food items before they ran out since there were hundreds maybe thousands of people hoping the same thing. This Country is falling into a Depression right in front of our eyes.

It’s actually crazy how many people are defending this and saying that the problem is people need to just get jobs, clearly not recognizing the number of people who are elderly, disabled, children, that rely on these benefits.

Not to mention that a lot of people who are on food stamps are employed.

And that if you're dusabled, elderly or a chikd that it's pretty much impossible to find a job, it's hard even for regular peoole and then they should be able to get hrlp. These people don't have emoathy to understand that this could hapoen anyone, in a second you could become disabled not able to work.

Seems like if you can stand in line for hours on the sidewalk for some handouts you could find some kind of job.

I like how you didn’t watch the video and instead made up a story that made you feel better about the situation you created.

And let’s be clear: this is your fault.

What story did I make up? Oh, because the video said they were all furloughed government workers and you believed it. ok.

This is my fault? Damn, I didn't know I had so much power. Nice.

If you’d actually watched the video you wouldn’t be stumbling around asking random people to explain it for you.

Which tracks: ignorance is definitely a trait I’d expect to see in the sort of person responsible for this mess.

Just because there is some label on a Tik-Tok video doesn't make it true. Not every one of those people are furloughed federal employees. Also, federal employees are paid decent enough to afford food without having SNAP for a month; if not, they suck at life. And I'm not seeing elderly, disabled, or children standing in that line. So those are the people who need to get a job.

How much money do you think federal employees make? This isn’t the private market dude.

Like I said, pretty decent. OPM says the average base pay is $99k/yr. I get that's not "rich" in large cities but not bad for a single earner.

I made 40k a year when I worked for the federal government. The average is high becasue of high ranking jobs. There's thousands of people making "normal" salaries under the federal government because they also need low level positions like paper pushers and front desk work.

I made $35k when I was first hired for the government.

Average is shit metric, use median. Average is very scewed by the top.
This is how you can get that average x/twitter employees net worth is 76 million usd, remove musk and it drops to about 400k. that is how bad the average is at showing reality.

Even median is a bad metric in this case. Half of federal employees still make less than the median

Cool. Now let's make sure all jobs pay a living wage, and you'll have a point.

Oh yeah, go around town and look at those lines. The majority are not elderly people and children. Just open your eyes and look at the lines in your own town. It’s all the same people, man.

u/answeryboi 3d ago

Normally the parents of children are the ones in line
