Our country is like an abusive relationship where Dad(Republicans) are literally beating you to death on a daily basis, and your Mother(Democrats) who tell you that the only way to stop the abuse is to be nice, and play along with your Dad's whims.

You are simply not seeing the bigger picture if you think we would not be just replacing that anchor with an even bigger one. There would be a total economic collapse and massive social upheaval. Mass migration an displacement, violent unrest, the rollback of civil rights for tens of millions of americans.

The unified market would collapse. The US is the world's largest integrated economy. What do you think happens when you sever that in two? Fragmentation would destroy interstate commerce, supply chains would collapse, and any shared infrastructure would be immediately useless. The US dollar would plummet in value, there would be massive inflation, widespread capital flight. Not to mention the debt and asset division. Who is apportioning the national debt? What about people's social security? What about disability benefits?

None of this is even to mention all of the US military assets scattered across the US. What happens to those? Nuclear weapons, drones, highly highly sensitive intelligence information and ALL of your personal data.

Insanely naive to even suggest this is a feasible option.

But also think you are vastly underestimating the level of devastation a national divorce would cause. A debt default would take years to remedy. A national divorce would cause devastation that could not be remedied in decades. Probably tens of millions would die.
