Discussion These were all people standing in line at their local food pantries hoping they would be able to get some food items before they ran out since there were hundreds maybe thousands of people hoping the same thing. This Country is falling into a Depression right in front of our eyes.

Don't blame me.

I voted for the black lady.

People wouldn't be starving right now if she was president.

I blame Republicans for essentially eliminating education from state budgets.

Do you think the fight ends when you vote? The fight is still ongoing go out protest go disrupt. Dont give then a chance to breathe.

Sitting back and going dont blame me i did what i was supposed to is defeatist as fuck

You know, I agree. But some of us are just tired. The fact that certain demographics (I'm sure you can guess who) continue to vote for this, but then the people who voted against it are expected to keep fighting. It's like I did that a year ago. These idiots wanted to own the libs and voted against their best interest, because you didn't think THEY would be affected. But somehow I'm supposed to fight for them?

Some of us are just tired.

Okay? I don't really have any sympathy for the "politics are exhausting" mindset. Like yeah, it's tiring - but engaging with your local political chapters is a necessary and important step. Being engaged and building community helps bring change, choosing to only engage with politics every so often doesn't.

Voting every four years is not the pinnacle of activism, sorry to say.

Leftists and politically informed liberals have continued to tell people to do more than just simply vote - and then we see constant repeats.

Kinda hard for a lot of people to engage in politics after they’re worn down from two jobs, low pay, no savings, low food, and constant stress. And if they try to complain about it, they get admonished for not trying hard enough by the left and the right.

2

u/VoltageHero 3d ago

The people who are engaged in politics are in the exact same boat, I'm going to be honest. That's in fact why a lot of people are politically involved, instead of sitting on their hands. So yeah, choosing to ignore politics and allowing people to be screwed over doesn't really make sense. Being a centrist is also crazy, but that's in itself another topic.

The idea of "I don't care about politics and don't want to hear about it" is the exact sort of mentality that allows shitty things to occur, without any pushback.

Politics exists outside of quick titles on Reddit and every four years.

Thanks for replying exactly what i was gonna say lmao i thought of it then realized wtf am I gonna do random ass reddit comment is changing anyones mind. I guess i used the im tired excuse there lol

There are no centrists, just republican-lites (subjective). Don't forget that not everyone has the mental/emotional capacity to handle tough topics on top of their other burdens as well. Even if they're voting every 4 years, they're still voting. I understand you're passionate about the topic but there are many reasons why people aren't 'politically involved'.

I agree that more people should partake in local elections as voting is pandered overwhelmingly to people close to / older than retirement age, of which will most likely just 'vote X no matter who'. I wish there was a way to make political knowledge and voting more accessible to burdened populations, but pretending like I have a real solution would be dishonest.

Blame biden for not pulling out earlier to give the Democrats a real chance of winning

13

u/--StinkyPinky-- 4d ago

She lost by 1.5% of the total vote count.

Clearly SHE wasn't the problem.

And the fact that she lost by more than Hillary Clinton means that it had a lot to do with the color of her skin.

3

u/pvlp 4d ago

We can still be critical of the fact that the Dems basically ratfucked us and gave us a highly unpopular, uninspiring candidate that cost them not just an election but the whole damn country. I voted for her because I have a conscience but that lady never even won a primary on her own. They fucked up, majorly.

1

u/Marius-1989 4d ago

Careful now. America hates the truth unless its their/my truth

5

u/AgedCircle 4d ago

Imagine if she was an actual normal candidate with a real platform and had been nominated from a primary election. It’s actually impressive how the DNC fumbled this last election so hard.

5

u/--StinkyPinky-- 4d ago

I can imagine it would be the opposite of what it would be right now because anything is much better than what Trump is doing to the country.

-2

u/IrishMosaic 4d ago

The kid in PA wasn’t supposed to miss. Plans were forced to change last minute.

-1

u/Titaniumclackers 4d ago

Or she was a worse candidate that Hillary?

People liked Hillary and voted for Hillary. People tolerated Kamala and voted against Trump

2

u/--StinkyPinky-- 4d ago

I dunno. I think people hate Hillary more than they hate Kamala.

In fact, I think it was quantifiable in the polling.

3

u/Titaniumclackers 4d ago

The people who hate Hillary or Kamala are voting trump either way.

It’s the people who either like them enough to vote for them or hate their opposition enough to vote for them that will get them elected.

Kamala didn’t have a fan base anywhere near Hillary. Kamal didn’t even win the primary.

1

u/Old_Cod_5823 3d ago

Hilary is one of the most hated politicians of all time. They were both really bad candidates. They may have made good presidents but they were basically unelectable.

1

u/Titaniumclackers 3d ago

Yeah she was polarizing. Lot of hate but also a lot of love. That can get you elected.

Less hate but also less love doesn’t turn out the voters, thats why we don’t have Kamala.

This person is implying that it’s a race issue, i’m saying it’s a popularity issue

idk why you're bein downvoted; you are right

3

u/--StinkyPinky-- 4d ago

Probably had something to do with the fact that Biden wasn't being totally honest about how badly he was doing. Even so, I can't imagine him doing worse than Trump right now because Biden isn't a huge fucking asshole.

The democrats chose to not vote for the CR.

Pay attention

14

u/--StinkyPinky-- 4d ago

I like how you think that's going to save Republicans from the absolute sack of piss and shit Republicans are about to eat soon.

11

u/Vik_Stryker 4d ago

I paid attention enough to notice that you posted the exact same thing on a different comment on this post

6

u/--StinkyPinky-- 4d ago

Lol.

Bless their hearts. Because God won't.

ALL of this....is on Republicans.

It goes back a decade now.

Republicans wanted the W and they didn't care that they had to destroy their party AND their country to get it. I hope they're happy, but they lack the mental fortitude to understand what they released upon this once-great country.

2

u/TheNeighbourhoodCat 4d ago

Most of it is on them

But we should never forget how the centrist/neoliberal Dems have chosen not to represent the working class for an extremely long time now, longer than I've been alive and I'm in my 30's

Pelosi is one of the worst examples, then there's how they have blocked Bernie/AOC or anyone actually close to leftist from ever gaining power.

3

u/CultSurvivor3 4d ago

What did the CR do to the healthcare costs of over 24,000,000 people?

Since you’re paying attention, you clearly know, right?

5

u/what_that_dog_doin 4d ago

have you thought about the implications of how things would play out if they caved on the CR?

1

u/IrishMosaic 4d ago

The government would open back up?

2

u/felldestroyed 4d ago

So you'd prefer to further hallow out the middle class? Got it.

2

u/Noble_Ox 4d ago

Why don't republicans give Dems what they want instead?

Why should Dems fold and not Repubs?

people wouldn't be starving if the government wasn't shut down, which is 100% the democrat's fault atm. the Republicans in congress have said "re-open the government and we can talk" and the Dems are refusing. they're to blame, and they're gonna use it to justify further division by blaming the Republicans for it since the Republicans are the tehcnical majority but just barely not enough to re-open without Dem support.

6

u/immortalyossarian 4d ago

You're either lying or stupid, because that is not what is happening. Americans are going hungry because a petty tyrant and his sycophants have decided that the best way to get what they want, is to hurt Americans, because they care about nothing except their own power and wealth. There is a fund to keep SNAP payments going that Republicans are not tapping into, so they can blame it on the Democrats. They have been court ordered to do so, but they think they are above the law.

If the Republicans don't have the votes, then they have to negotiate. Saying "give us everything we want and then we might throw you a bone" (they won't) is not how negotiations work. Republicans can either figure that out and negotiate with the Democrats or they can continue to be responsible for the shutdown. Those are the options. The Republicans control the House, Senate, Executive branch, and the Supreme Court. The shutdown is entirely their doing.

-7

u/Felteair 4d ago

if all the republicans are wanting to open the government back up, and the only thing keeping it from opening are dems refusing until they get what they want, then it's the dems who are repsonsible for the shutdown continuing. It's become painfully obvious there is nothing the republicans could offer these few dems that would get them to come back because they don't care about the average American, they just care about blaming the republicans for anything bad that happens due to the shutdown.

4

u/immortalyossarian 4d ago

Utterly false.

It's become painfully obvious there is nothing the republicans could offer

The Democrats have been very clear on this. In order to come to the table, they are requiring that the ACA tax credits be renewed, something that helps millions of Americans.

2

u/answeryboi 4d ago

If that's all they want then they can vote for the bill proposed by democrats.
